Behind the scenes, it's probably all, "fucking snowflakes" bullshit.
Reading through their reviews they seem to have some serious problems with customer service regularly. Most views say the food was great all the negative reviews say they got yelled at by the staff, who are mostly family of the chef/owner about something they didn't except, they yelled at a group that wanted to order from outside because they had a dog with them, yelled at a man who asked to use the restroom, yelled at a family for going to the restroom before ordering after being seated, they had small kids, yelled at someone for asking who the current owner was, in it seems like they do OK food, but really don't care for customers all that much.
I’ve worked at a couple of Mom & Pop places in the south during my youth, and generally they were terrible with money, racist, and tried avoiding taxes any way they could.
Small sample size with a sprinkle of confirmation bias on my end, but there are usually signs.
Always need help? Discount on cash purchases? Making the customer pay the credit card transaction fee?
There are many others, but those are generally the biggest ones where management is just interested in customer sympathy and the bottom line.

Some of the most bigoted people I've ever met have been Asian. Bigotry is not exclusive to whites.

This place was on Diners Drive ins and Dives a while back, I went there to check it out just because of that, they had some good crawfish etouffe but that’s where it stopped. The place was dirty and old feeling and the staff was very trashy at that time, I see now why.
My first job was at a restaurant that was on DD&D. It was definitely the latter lol. Very definition of a greasy spoon.
Good food. Probably skirted a lot of health codes. But good food nonetheless.
