Crazy for me to think that earthworms are invasive to North America!

Not all of them! Earthworms are not native to areas that were recently glaciated, since prior to human activities, earthworms were extremely slow to migrate to new areas. Southern areas of the US do have native earthworms species.

That said, the native earthworms are usually uncommon except in very undisturbed natural ecosystems. Most human modified landscapes are dominated by invasive species.
