Red Bull has pulled the trigger after just two rounds in 2025, swapping Liam Lawson for Yuki Tsunoda. But beyond the on-track implications, what message does it send to young drivers and the Red Bull junior program?

The message is git gud. Also why is every press outlet acting like Lawsonโ€™s career is over. Lawson still gets a second chance to ride a full season at Racing Bulls. He might not get a seat at RB anymore, but if he proves himself at the junior team he still has a chance to get a seat at one of the other teams. Like Albon and Gasly are still in F1 even though they failed at RB.

The thing is, this isn't new. This might be the most aggressive move we've seen them make so far but it's one in a long line of crazy expectations from their drivers.

Yuki should've been moved first and it was stupid that he wasn't. That tells prospects at Racing Bulls (this is so gross to say) all they need to know. The drama there has been playing out season after season and Red Bull has plenty of history showing how they handle drivers.

It's likely to continue until they lose Max or land the next generational talent.

Then it's kind of new

Yuki should've been moved first and it was stupid that he wasn't

That's just it, this was the obvious choice at the end of last season as well as the proper way to groom Lawson. The fact RB fucked up the strategy here basically says RB is bad at planning more than 1 race ahead and may hint at sone underlying racism in the mix (looking at you Helmut)

The environment was at least counter balanced with the benefit that Newey could build a championship contending car. Those days may be gone now. Is it worth going through the meat grinder to be in the mid-field there?
