I like that this song is not about anything at all, but hella people have tried to ascribe some sort of deep meaning to it. It's just a kick ass song that sounds sick as hell. Cornell has stated that the song is just singing words for the sake of singing words.
90s Music
From Grunge to Gangsta Rap and everything in between! Post a song and let's talk about it!
Rules
- All aspects of the LW TOS apply.
- Be constructive and don't gatekeep. Music is highly subjective, and people have different tastes.
- If the source is YouTube, use the actual YouTube URL rather than a specific Invidious/Piped link. This prevents dead links as those go on/offline or break due to Google changes while also letting people's browser plugins, Lemmy clients, etc automatically re-write YT links to their preferred instances. Feel free to put alternate links in the post body, though.
- Put the link to the song in the URL field and not the post body.
- Submissions must be from the 90s (1990 - 1999) based on either recorded or release date. e.g. if it was recorded in 1999 but released in 2000, we're not going to split hairs over that; post away. Covers made in the 90s of older music is absolutely allowed and encouraged.
Posting Guidelines / Suggestions
- The preferred title format is
Artist - Song Name [YEAR]
- If a song has a particular meaning or evokes a pleasant memory for you, feel free to share your story with it.
If you have other suggestions that would help grow the community and/or foster discussion, please feel free to share.

So what exactly in the video needed to be censored? Also, RIP Chris Cornell.
Here's a pretty good summary of the changes https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=3065
That page says the CG effects were deemed too disturbing. The rumor that I read somewhere was that there were complaints about people sucked up into the sun resembling incidents from 9/11 of people falling from the skyscrapers.
I remember when it first came out and there wasn't much CGI in it. Then about a month later, the CGI version was released. I swear they said that the reason was that the CGI, which was still pretty cutting edge at the time, wasn't completed on time, so they released it without it. I never heard anything about it being censored. But I suppose I could have misremembered it.
Watch all 3 versions side by side:
Apparently the daytime/censored versions are harder to find now.
