When biologists claim that “sex is binary,” they mean something straightforward: there are only two sexes. [..] Because there is no third gamete type, there are only two sexes that a person can be. Sex is therefore binary.

Besides, our society is not currently experiencing a sudden dramatic surge in people stricken with ambiguous genitalia; we are experiencing a surge in people who are unambiguously one sex claiming to “identify” as the opposite sex, or neither sex.

Other compositions than the typical XX and XY arrangement do not represent additional sexes beyond male and female, but instead represent chromosomal variation within each of the two sexes.

Liberals need to snap back to reality and drop the gender religion crap that cost them the election. Sex is binary and immutable. Trans women are men. Surgery and hormones won't change that.

Go get a hobby instead of just trying to "um actually" people because you don't like them being happy. I don't care what your beliefs are, trans people aren't hurting you so just let people be

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So men will stay out of women's spaces then, right?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Gendered bathrooms are a stupid idea to begin with, no one wants to be in a big room with a bunch of other people going to the bathroom. I only ever use single person unisex bathrooms because they're cleaner, they're quieter, I feel safer, etc. I think most other trans people would do the same if they could. If trans people have no choice but to use a gendered restroom, it's safer for everyone involved if they just go to the bathroom of their actual gender instead of their agab/sex/whatever word you want. But the long term solution that will make both cis and trans people happier is replacing all the stupid gendered bathrooms with private unisex bathrooms.

I loved a place that had urinals in one bathroom and private stalls in another. The wash area was for everyone.

All politics aside, it was just more efficient for everyone. It was faster as well.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I think that's a great solution. If you're comfortable going to the bathroom around other people then you can quickly use the urinal side and be on your way or if you can't or aren't comfortable you can use the private side. It's the best of both worlds

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

The urinals were in a different room but shared sinks with the toilets. It’s the best of both worlds. The stalls were the best. Tall with solid doors. The whole bathroom fight isn’t my fight. Make them all gender less. It’s weird at first but you adapt quickly when all you do is what your hands around the opposite gender

Will men stay out of women's sports?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I also don't think gendered sports need to exist, just have people try out and be put into classes based on their performance instead of gender. The current system is kind of unfair to everyone because there are some sports that only have one gendered team in a lot of places. Like at my university I think only men can play rugby. I don't know enough about sports to know how to properly implement a good system, but I'm sure it could be figured out and probably end up making sports more fun for everybody. Either way, strength definitely doesn't completely follow gender or sex, my friends who are cis women could absolutely beat me up.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

If women want gendered sports, you'll agree that men shouldn't be allowed into women's sports, even if they're trans women?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

If a team wants to exclude trans women who consistently outperform their competition, fine, as long as they also exclude cis women who are equally high performers. I don't think that would be smart, but I also don't think it's like morally objectionable. If they want to exclude all trans women regardless of performance and not exclude high performing cis women, then it's not about fairness, it's about discrimination.

I'm no sports expert though, and I would guess the majority of trans women don't play any sports, so I feel like this issue really doesn't need to be seen as so important. I'd say leave it to the actual players to figure out

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not going to try and convince you of anything, but your response is a good summary of the problem. You started off by saying "trans people aren’t hurting you so just let people be", and now you're saying that men should be able to force their way into women's sports even if the women don't want them there.

Women deserve single-sex spaces.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Talking about the variations in XX and XY chromosomes and then pretending they don't count as variations is pathetic. Humans are complex and this 'scientist' is pushing an agenda. Nothing more. Sex is not in any way a binary and you 'trust the science' chodes should actually read about science.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sex is binary. Always has been.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Case in point. Read actual scientific papers on this. It's only XX and XY right? Except for XXX, XYY, and numerous other variations.

We have people with both sets of genitalia, we have people with neither, we have people where one set is 'internal' and not visible. We even have people that develop the other set later in life.

Not at all a binary.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Those are genetic defects. Those are not different sexes. We have two sexes. Period.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"These differences don't count" is anti scientific bullshit. Actually go and read about this. I'm begging you to not take this one dipshit's word for it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They are defects, not viable sexes. It’s how I was taught biology and how biology is still being taught. Fringe lunatics claiming otherwise doesn’t change the standard opinion on the topic. We are a binary species when it comes to sex. Trying to say a defect is a new sex is stupidity that is mind blowing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

So intersex people don't exist?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

What size gametes do they produce? Intersex people are not a monolith, nor do they have anything to do with transgenderism.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

They do. It’s a genetic defect. It’s not a new sex.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It is. You’re free to believe otherwise but it’s binary.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So intersex people don't exist?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s a birth defect. It isn’t a new sex

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not it’s binary. Male or female

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

None of that is how sex is defined, and that's the entire point of this article. Sex is defined by the size of gametes you produce, and that is binary and immutable.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not though. It really really isn't. The existence of even one intersex person means what you're saying is nonsense.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Read the article. The author has a PhD in evolutionary biology and knows more than you.

The “sex binary” does not entail that every human is unambiguously either male or female, even though the vast majority are.

He wrote another article where he cites that you are 100% wrong and this definition has been used since the 19th century: https://www.realityslaststand.com/p/citations-for-the-gamete-based-definition

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He also wants to be on Tucker Carlson and Rogan so he's willing to lie about shit. This guy doesn't represent the scientific consensus. Just a turd trying to cash a paycheck.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Here's the great thing about science: Is he wrong? If you can't cite or explain how he's wrong, hurling insults doesn't do shit.

He very much represents the scientific consensus, as explained by the link I just gave you that you clearly didn't read.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Genetic defects don’t create a new sex. It’s weird how this ideology is being pushed but biologist are pushing back. We can say sex and gender are different but we can’t argue there are 50 sexes. That just isn’t true. There are two with defects from either

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Other compositions than the typical XX and XY arrangement do not represent additional sexes beyond male and female, but instead represent chromosomal variation within each of the two sexes.

Literally the quote I pasted above. Variations within a sex.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

You can say sex and gender are different. I’m fine with that but in science there are two sexes. For some reason people are trying to push it’s not that simple but it is. It’s always been that way. The media is just latching on to it but real biologist don’t buy into it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

hermaphrodite? What sex are they?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

What sizes gametes do they produce?
