At least it’s consistent that the show dies whenever American money gets involved.

Causality is backwards. Whenever the show's close to dead, American money is brought in as a last-ditch effort to keep it alive.

doubtful this is true but they should have never gotten disney involved anyway - or any american company. disney just exists for the bottom line, they've never cared about shows. look how they pandered to bigots by cancelling acolyte..

It does need a rest before coming back as a campy kids horror as it was before

It needs to go back to cheap practical effects and far less CGI. The aliens don't need to be made of papier-mâché but we don't need shots of a spinning TARDIS flying through space or the vortex. Just show it fading and reappearing, like normal. The TARDIS interior doesn't need to be so enormous; the size of that Memory TARDIS from the Sutekh arc was fine. It doesn't need to be the location of a story; just a small backdrop while the Doctor and companions are briefly in transit to where they're ACTUALLY going. Finales don't need giant CGI monsters or fleets of Dalek saucers to "raise the stakes". A single Dalek should continue to pose enough threat to have the Doctor worried.

I was perfectly happy watching Twin Peaks and another dimension was represented by some red curtains and garish knick-knacks. Imagination is fine. Weeping angels being the same statue just moved around, and a different one when they attack, that's effective cost-cutting. The creature you never see because it's always behind someone? That's effective cost-cutting. The swarm of invisible locusts that turn you into a skeleton if you stand in the wrong shadow? That's effective cost-cutting. Limitations INCREASE creativity. Budgets don't need to be enormous. Jaws was scarier in the scenes where you DIDN'T see the shark.

we don’t need shots of spinning Tardis flying [], just dis- and reappearing

I love most of the flight scenes, and it’s been used in nuwho from the beginning (parting of the ways, the runaway bride, etc.), but I agree

Agree. I've found the spinning TARDIS flying through space silly and cartoonish. Why would it do that when it could materialise closer?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just please don’t bring it back with skibdi toilet

Or - worse - Italian Brainrot creatures!

Considering the rumor was this was the end for Gatwa, I tend to belive this other one too!

Needs a firebreak. Then return to its pre-2005 roots. Bobby Ewing its way out of the TARDIS shower.

Edit: Changed Bony to Bobby (though I love Bony Ewing as a Dallas character that never was).

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying you want a retcon to say the revival never happened? No War Doctor, 9th, 10th, Metacrisis, 11th, 12th, 13th, MasterDoctor, 13th again, 14th, bigeneration, 15th, Piper? Current Doctor is still Paul McGann's 8th? No Timeless Child, no Tekteun, no Fugitive Doctor, no Division, no Flux, no Weeping Angels, no River Song, no Time War?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes. Regard it all a bit like the Valeyard: ghostly future echoes of what could have been. The more appealing stuff can always be reintroduced afresh. If you don't like Eight - I could be convinced with Seven. I'd be happy with a pre-Rose Nine as well.

(I'm increasingly an advocate of (re)introducing the Faction, if Miles would allow it, who have been there all the time messing with time, causing temporal collapse - from which emerges new timelines which simultaneously embrace and reject everything before. And behind that a greater War in Heaven which makes the Time War look like a scuffle in a playground.)

Why not just reboot the whole thing from scratch altogether and redo the entire franchise but with coherent logic this time?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Why settle for coherent when you can make it complicated and unintelligible? Private Eye is saying that the show's been put on hiatus for at least 3 years - so plenty of time to reverse the polarity on the complexity inhibitors.
