"Operation Wetback was an immigration law enforcement initiative created by Joseph Swing, a retired United States Army lieutenant general and head of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS)...The short-lived operation used military-style tactics to remove Mexican immigrants—some of them American citizens—from the United States."

Note: I don't approve of the slur in the name, but it is the only name the event goes by

Harlon Carter, the racist vigilante killer who later led a takeover of the NRA and reshaped it in his image, was head of the Border Patrol at the time and a key figure in this.
