Joined lemmygrad in hopes of quitting reddit after the whole API thing (I have impaired vision and relied on 3rd party appps to use reddit). So glad there's a thriving ML community here. I'm new to the radical marxist left, but eager to learn.

I was radicalized during COVID. Me and a lot of people I know got screwed and left without a job in the pandemic due to the poor response against the virus from companies and the government. I now realize that we can only secure our rights through organized effort.

Here's hoping for the triumph of the working class everywhere, especially Latino America!

Hello everyone, I am a reddit refugee who learned about Lemmy a few days ago by coincidence on a comment of a post talking about the reddit situation. I am a new leftist, so I still have a lot of theory to read. I think of myself as a Marxist-Leninist. Am autistic, French, kinda socially awkard but can really ramble if I have something I want to say. Used to be a weird sort of anticapitalist non-anarchist social democrat before properly learning about communism, the kind that is like "capitalism is bad but so is communism so we need a 3rd different system" if you know what I mean.

New here and checked now and was able to log in so I guess I was accepted amongst your ranks.

I am probably another reddit refugee. I really wish this whole "going dark" thing was more of a reddit internet general strike thing because 2 days isn't gonna do shit. But if this whole 3rd party API thing never happened, I might not have learned about Lemmy and Lemmygrad. I have a Mastodon account too so I sort of get the federation thing.

I generally state that I started college as a Dem and left as a Soc. I am a paid member of my local DSA chapter(we don't have any other leftist orgs where I am at), but haven't been active because family life got real busy. I have been reading a ton of theory lately. I realized late last year that I wanted to re-evaluate where I stand on the left spectrum. I felt like I was ML but figured I was doing myself a disservice not reading Marx, Lenin, Stalin, etc.

Current hobbies are mechanical keyboards(dirty fucking 36 key commie), horror movies, reading, fidgeting.

Read Principles of Communism, Blackshirts and Reds, and State and Revolution if you haven't started with theory yet.

I messed up signing up the first time since this is the first time I have tried Lemmy, but think I'm getting a handle on all this now. God willing this will be my homegrown and ethical Reddit replacement. Thanks for setting everything up so far ahead of time—I'm sure that's making this whole transition easier for us Rexiteers.

I like reading theory and sharing book and paper recommendations, with a specific focus on Marxian economics. LibGen and scihub are my favorite websites.

I do have a question about federation. I know lemmygrad.ml is banned by many instances and if I understand correctly they can't see comments made from lemmygrad accounts, but can I still downvote bad takes when I see them? Or do I completely not exist to them?

I found out about Lemmy and Lemmygrad today in a Reddit post about the new API changes and came here to talk about left politics, share material and have fun. I have a lot of experience with digital preservation, cats are my favorite animals and I am allergic to liberalism.

What's the deal with agencies?

I got laughed at for carrying a Marx book in college. You guys should check him out though he's got some good points.

I was very lazy and out of touch in my political outlook until a certain trump and podcast explosion led me down a gross lib rabithole. Of course soon I found more radical podcasts, and now I listen to them all the time as surrogate friends. It feels like real smart people are talking and laughing with me.

I've first discovered Lemmygrad during the first days of the Ukraine debacle, and continued to visit it and began asking questions, then became a full ML after reading theory.

Hi! I'm Jakob, and I'm a trans guy living in a very very red (not the good kind) state with my wife. We are both basically MLs (though I need to read more theory :c ). I sneeze when I'm full, I love cats but my wife is allergic so we don't have any, I listen to a lot of music so I would love to talk about that sometime, and I constantly think about social justice. Every billionaire is bad. Also, you can't kill me in a way that matters :)
