I don't want to paint the big corps as good guys cause they're not, but this bill is stupid. Websites used to pay others to have them link their content.
If I was running Google or Meta, I would do the same. When you're in the business of advertising, you don't pay the companies you bring traffic to, they pay you. That's how the business works.
Imagine if the customer service desk at a mall had to pay the shops for each customer they directed to a shop.
Not sure if you ever used MS' or Google's news but they tend to show you the entire or near the entire article. The websites get no money from ads on their websites aka they get no income.
we got that bullshit over here too. And when google said they gonna stop linking to newssites the sites cryed „monopoly“ and asked politicans to forbid google to do that. So they want to force google to provide them customers and pay them to do it. I dont like how google does many things but that is just ridiculous
