Perhaps, but we're now in an age where IPO announcements, CEO changes and even new features inevitably lead to enshittification. There is no harm in having a backup plan.

I'd even say that anyone who doesn't have a plan B is an idiot, given recent history.

Not currently a Revolt user, but this would be a requirement for me to consider switching, too.

It looks like its API supports webhooks, so should be relatively straightforward to enable it (or perhaps through a third party, like Zapier)?

Sounds plausible.

FWIW, New World (doesn't have borderless fullscreen) got me into the habit of tapping the Windows key before doing anything outside the game. Other than when the game is starting, it never has any problems when I do that.

I'm using EndeavourOS, KDE, Wayland, so YMMV.

Hard agree. Mindsets stuck in 2005 or before when cool and useful stuff was, just, free online. We were such summer children then.

Anyone still like that obviously shouldn't be in charge of anything sharp or dangerous...

I've been told off for reporting phishing attempts:

  • Real: "Why did you receive it?!" Dunno mate. Woke up this morning and decided that I wanted it. We all have total control over what email we get sent, right?
  • Fake: "This Isn't a phishing attempt! What's wrong with you?!" The From domain, the link domain both look suspicious, and the SMTP headers are dodgy AF. Should I have FAFO and then reported it after the fact?
  • Test: "Why are you reporting this? It's the test phish we commissioned!" You do realise that you're meant to do some work, right? Sure, you paid someone to safely phish staff, but that also means following up on it's effects.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. And manglement gaze at their navels wondering why incidents don't get reported... 😬

Anyone remember websites and RSS? Those were the days.

Why does everything have to get shovelled into someone's walled garden...

(Speaking about updates and notifications here, not discussions.)

Your personal preference applied to others would sure make all those image-specific communities a bit quiet... 🤔

And then there's Strike Witches...

"Dead" as in recent but crickets, or as in 2 years old but quiet?

If the former, fill yer boots and go wild. If the latter, then you're necrobumping and have a circle of hell with your name on it.

I don't make the rules...

I really tried with that book, after a similar recommendation on pigboy's site years ago - and it does have some useful techniques and ideas - but I just couldn't get past her magical thinking proselytism. Every other paragraph, or so it seemed at the time.

Without wishing to put everyone off it: her "why" is (demonstrably and unequivocally) bollocks, but her "how" is good.

It's quite BASIC, really...

Similar to: "Tradition" is peer pressure from dead people. 😄

Just fired up Voyager on Android to discover a notification-style marker above the settings/gear icon. Opening Settings doesn't provide any clue as to why. Taking it further by tapping each of the top level menu items also doesn't show why.

Okay, Voyager. Keep your secrets...

Edit: F-Droid showed that Voyager had recently updated, so I tapped the recent apps button and swiped up to close Voyager. When I reopened it, the marker was gone.

Posted this to AskLemmy (https://lemmy.world/post/17088629), but thought it worth posting here:

I use old.lemmy.world as my interface and I've noticed that roughly every month I'm:

  • Forcibly logged out and have to do the re-auth dance for no apparent reason.
  • Everything I've set in Settings is forgotten: Default Listing reverts to All, Default Post Sort reverts to Hot, and so on.

My browser is set to retain cookies and such, so it's not PEBKAC/PICNIC. Why is Lemmy doing a nuke-from-low-orbit every month (roughly) despite me using it as recently as the day before? Why aren't my preferences being retained between logins?

I suspect the recent update (https://mastodon.world/@LemmyWorld/112706805419064266) explains the latest event, but the questions still stand.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I didn't find mention of it. I use old.lemmy.world as my interface and I've noticed that roughly every month I'm:

  1. Forcibly logged out and have to do the re-auth dance for no apparent reason.
  2. Everything I've set in Settings is forgotten: Default Listing reverts to All, Default Post Sort reverts to Hot, and so on.

My browser is set to retain cookies and such, so it's not PEBKAC/PICNIC. Why is Lemmy doing a nuke-from-low-orbit every month (roughly; haven't measured it) despite me using it as recently as the day before? Isn't this bonkers practice?

Edit: I've just seen https://mastodon.world/@LemmyWorld/112706805419064266 which may explain it. Either way, the questions stand.
