Found in Summer in the Pacific Northwest on a hike, and forest was mixed evergreen and deciduous.

Based on pics it really could be either.

High contrast around the eye(s) is usually great. Color selection is limited and so much better for it, I'm getting Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark kinda vibes from it and I'm really enjoying it. Kudos. Thanks for sharing.

Takes time and practice, watercolor is fun when you let go a bit, if you take too much control you're going to be disappointed when it doesn't behave.
