To add to the problem, social security was never meant to be an national ID number. It was just really useful for a whole lot of things. However, numbers are handed out sequentially, not randomly. So take your SIN and add or subtract one from it and that is another person's SIN. Knowing just a few simple things about a person can reveal most if not their entire SIN.

Yours, mine, and everyone else's happiness has value. I get that's not the point you were trying to make. All I am trying to say is that a utilitarian approach to your own happiness will almost always leave you unhappy. You deserve to be happy just as much as anyone else.
I think people misunderstand this and that you explained it well. It wasn't a court that struck down the video, it was YouTube. I'm not sure though what American law has to say about monolithic platforms like YouTube and hosting public domain content.
I dismiss this comment because your age and race are ambiguous and everything else! /S
Seriously though I kind of feel like Lemmy has at least some of that nostalgic feeling. Surfing through instances, finding that one semi-active obscure interest community you fit right in with. It's definitely not the same but nothing stays the same.
Honestly, some people I know are just fish in a barrel compared to some of these mobile game ads. I used to think it was a character flaw, and for most it is. For them I don't have much sympathy. For a small few, those dopamine casinos are irresistible. It's a compulsion to play, just like a gambling addiction. These are "The Whales" mobile game companies talk about. They're the fish in a barrel.
Yeah it's hard to say what form a subscription might take. I hope it's for a developer version and they leave home alone. Actually I hope it doesn't happen at all but who am I kidding? I expect to be paying a subscription for DLSS in 5 years. What I can easily imagine happening is that a base version of Windows will be free and they'll teir the available features and services through the subscription. They don't want to lose their dominance in the market.
He could also become president again, that's his plan. He's trying to run out the clock on all his legal troubles. Once he's a presidential candidate I'll bet you every one of those Republicans that turned on him after Jan. 6 will suddenly start saying it's unconstitutional to charge/prosecute a presidential candidate.
I hate to tell you this but the door is basically open and there's a loud mouth running for president and his cronies who's trying to finish the job.
Honestly everything the Nazi's did, the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom did first the Nazis just scaled it up big time. Modern concentration camps, British. The idea of The Final Solution, Canadian. Forced sterilization and eugenics, born in Europe but expanded upon by the United States. At least Canada is trying to find justice for the victims of it's past. Even if it's obviously failing. Is Canada genocidal now, no. We're they, absolutely. Are they do enough to reconcile, not even close.
Yeah I don't understand religions that view medicine with scepticism but practice prayer with complete confidence. If I was religious I'd see modern medicine as a mericle. We can cure most cancers easily. Granted not all cancers but most.
I don't think that is an actual rule of acquisition but it damned well should be.
Party lines! You'd share your phone line with one or more other households. When the phone rang they all rang with alternating short-long rings to identify which house on the line the caller intended to call. So if someone calls you at 2am, several of your neighbors know about it because their phones rang too. Even better, being a snot nosed kid I knew how to take a set of headphones and clip them onto the line. You'd hear both sides of the conversation of any house on the party line without dropping the call voltage too much and getting caught. That meant no one talked about anything private on the phone, everyone else could be listening.
