"How about Paipai Mask?" - Kanzaki Hiro Remix / Houshou Marine

It always seem like that. I used to think like that too, 15 years ago

Eh, scratch that, I still think like that.

I started to think it's because of the result from years of a lot of people being trained and marinated by big tech in siloed opaque social media and website sign ups, where everything is it's own thing with almost no interconnectedness and communication between each other. So it seems hard when they (me too admittedly) see all this instance thing and federated that.

Also IMO fediverse has a too nerdy and being infodumped on image to me. That image, at least on the threadiverse side, seems to be toned down and normie-d with recent "campaigns" on reddit though.

You guys really do need to not be too nerdy lol.

the alternative is not perfect either so why not just stay

It does work for a lot of people. Seeing they need to change and adapt if they do change, and it seemingly seems to be as bad as what they're using now, why change and face headaches and hassle.

Can only speak for myself, but anything the instance admin deems related. Or voted / suggested by their members.

sure, I'll try to keep an eye out for problems.

in a sense I get then though. it's like they're getting preached on. nobody lines that, right?

I myself gave threadiverse another chance on my own volition and learned on my own.

so it might take some time for others to try it give a second chance

hmm, is it possible that maybe both of those mbin instances blocks imgur? I have accounts on both but I'm using fedia as my main

if this keeps up I might just abandon mbin and go with Lemmy while waiting for piefed lol...

annoying that they get preachy about it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

how to do that?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Instances admins would start to advocate to defederate from them just like with Meta's Threads IMO.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

in my two weeks of using lemmy/mbin seriously, I've had plenty of times federation isn't perfect. mostly from what I understand it's either because of defederation or someone never subscribed yet from my home instance. I did still have to open not my instance's post.

I tried making the question makes sense.

So I'll just give an example and my situation:

I'm browsing on fedia.io, clicked open a post that's from a community on lemm.ee, and it opens through my instance.

Say I want to see that post in a) lemm.ee, b) another instance not the home instance of that post, e.g. ani.social.

How I understand it, I'd have to search go to the instance I want and search the post on /all basically.

Any easier or automated way?

I've tried searching for other posts that ask a similar question, but I couldn't fine one that could fully make me understand what it would mean in this scenario.

So far from my understanding is that if I browse All, the instance I'm on won't show anything at all from the instances that it blocked. But manually doing the workaround would still show me the community and whatever posts that got federated in my instance. Is my understanding correct?

The other topic of federation that I'm interested to understand as a user are below.

The example: fedia.io states in their federation list that it does not federate with ani.social. But ani.social states they federate with fedia.io.

I can go to say [email protected] just fine via fedia.io, although there is some posts that doesn't show. Is this one of the result of this situation?

Additionally, today I did basically try to subscribe to all the same communities/magazines on my lemmy.world (I'm considering to abandon this account), fedia.io and kbin.earth accounts.

Other than the situation above happened to some communities where some post doesn't sync, I've also found some communities that's just inaccessible from either 3 instances.

Is that another result of not being federated?

Thanks in advanced.
