I've been making my own "controversial user" and "pretty cool" tags on Voyager. Don't know if any other apps allow for tagging. But it is kinda handy to look at a post, see my tag, and remember "oh yeah this person likes to cause drama" or "this person always makes an interesting point".

On Monday, prominent Democrats including the Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren demanded an investigation of possible criminal corruption involving Starlink, citing “the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to cancel a $2.4bn contract with Verizon to upgrade air traffic control communications, and to pay … Musk’s Starlink to help manage US airspace”.

The SpaceX and Tesla billionaire denies conflicts of interest. Trump has said if conflicts are found, they will be addressed.

That's like the fox promising to make sure the henhouse is safe.

I don't know how there could not be a conflict of interest.

In addition to bourbon, Canada is a crucial market for U.S. whiskey and other spirits as well as wine and beer. Bartenders, waitstaff and retail clerks in the U.S. are among those who will face significant layoffs if trade tensions continue, said Mr. Gould.

I'm curious about why US bartenders and waitstaff could be impacted... Is this specific to those who work at distilleries, or is it general to all in the hospitality industry? It's not clear to me.

Interesting.

I'm on android, so it could be a operating system issue, but having the ability to adjust to suit individual needs would still be helpful.

Turning Red was written-directed by a Canadian and set in Canada, so it's at least Canadian adjacent.

I had no idea A Christmas Story was Canadian, but makes sense it would be.

I've only seen 5/51. Guess I'm going to have to start watching some movies!

I know I've seen at least a couple of these available on CBC Gem, if anyone else needs to catch up on these!

We also have to take into consideration who is paying the media... Postmedia, which publishes many Canadian papers, is owned by US hedge fund Chatham Asset Management, known for close ties to the Republican party.

Very cool!

Too bad they dont have Phillips compatible heads or I'd try them for my electric toothbrush too! I am intrigued by the floss picks though... Has anyone tried those and want to share your thoughts?

Just tested it out, and I can see it in light mode but dark mode is still very difficult to see, no matter which combination of dark mode settings I use.

In any mode but light mode the quoted text bar is nearly invisible which makes makes reading posts with quoted text a challenge.

I would love an option to change the color of the quoted text bar, or barring that, it would be nice if the default color of the bar were easier to see on dark mode.

Thanks!

That's good to know too, thank you!

I don't know any personally, or if I do I haven't asked them about it, but there was a guy on a CBC/npr call in show a few weeks back who thought becoming the 51st state would be great, because he can't currently get healthcare for his kids.

Um..

So delusional as ever, I'd say.

Sorry if this has been asked before I couldn't figure out how to search the community either.

Thanks for your help on either of the two issues! 😂

Edit: it seems I needed to subscribe before I could search, and it took me a minute figure out how to subscribe....

Anyway I'm learning. Still looking for a way to auto-sort by new if that's an option.

Cheers

Edit again: I figured it out. It was in the settings all along. Might as well leave this post up in case any one else has this question.

Solution

Settings > general > posts > default sort

And

Settings > general > comments > default sort

Just came across this while scrolling pixelfed!

A Canadian hosted search engine.

I have been using Ecosia, but will have to try this out.

At present 50% of the company's chocolates in Canada came from the U.S., and the rest from Europe.

"We are able to source 100% from Europe," Lechner told Reuters.

Lindt, whose products include Lindor chocolate balls, has already built up inventories in Canada from the U.S. to give it time to change its supply chain, which it expects to complete by the middle of the year.

Chief Financial Officer Martin Hug said it would be slightly more expensive to transport chocolate to Canada from Europe but it would cost less than if tariffs were imposed.

I would love to see more companies move in this direction. It's not perfect, but at least they are trying, and I think that's great.
