That's a decent price. I would do some research on the mobo and PSU. HP likes to cheap out on those (or did), maybe Omen does, too.

I think hybrid is the way to go. You won't connect with your peers online the way you do irl, and I it's healthy to leave home from time to time. I also work better in a dedicated office space versus at home.

But as a student in an IT related field: God do I hate the uni pcs. They. would. not. run. unity. once. because of some obscure bug with my user profile and I had to waste my lecturers and my time switching users, trying to install the right version every single lesson. For two semesters I could not parttake. On my own PC at home I could have fixed that within minutes because admin rights and decent internet. Heck, I even asked the IT department if I could have admin rights which they denied, quite understadably. Sorry this turned a bit into a rant.

But cutting commute time and getting up shortly before lecture sure is nice :3

Pretty much any variation of power saw. The closer your hands are to the moving saw, the worse. Hand saws are cool tho. Love my Ryoba

never realized the cheetah is wearing a collar. does anyone know what that could be? Do Biologists put trackers on felines, like they do with marine animals to track their movement/migration patterns?

Saws. The sound they're making shakes me to my core and having to help someone who almost amputated their finger enforced that fear further

Hello friend. Good bye. Until we shall meet again.

I just read lately that younger generations in germany drink less alcohol. I am not sure what the common reasons are, but I think the weed legalization made questioning the effects of alcohol more mainstream.

King Arthur will come with his coconut playing entourage and claim my mortal soul. I should get a white rabbit. or maybe I should avoid it? Who can tell

Not that many, bacause I don't have a lot of space. I borrow from the library occasionally, which is brilliant, because it's cheap and doesn't take up space.

And yes, I weed my collection and keep only books that I really enjoyed or know that I'll reread. Sometimes I try to sell them 2nd hand, others that are lesser value I leave at these public book cabinets.

I hardly ever give away educational books though. I feel like I could come back at them anytime and they'll still provide information and usefullness.

Shit, I got one of these. What now? Do I need to hand it over to/authorities?

I don't know, but I highly recommend learning the phrase: Sorry, I don't speak [language], but I speak [language].

Can't overdose as in die? Idk. But can't overdose as in creating health issues? Rare but possible.

My GPU's fans spin either at 100% or stand still. they rarely ever dip below 1000rpm, and if so, only shortly (see images below). This worries me, and I am 99% sure I'll refund that card, but before buying a new one, I want to make sure the fault is not with my system. This is my first AMD GPU and I am pretty green in Linux.

So far I tried adjusting the GPU's fan curve, with fan-control and CoreCtrl but it didn't change the erratic fan behavior.

I checked my BIOS for 0rpm mode, but couldn't find anything. It also only let's me configure CPU and sys fan curves.

Is there anything I can try before sending the card back to fix these issues or -best case- verify the card is actually causing the issue? I'd hate to get a replacement and face the same issues again.

Update I REMed it and will get the same.card again, but from a different, more widely adopted vendor. I don't want to spent another week troubleshooting an issue I may not have the skill to fix.

Thank you all for your input :)

Recently bought a RX7600XT and experienced lagging in Krita and flickering in blender since. I installed the drivers from AMD's website, and ROCm.

I am unsure and totally overwhelmed as to what could cause these issues. ~~ChatGPT always wants me to edit /etc/default/grub, but I am not sure why and what the bootloader has got to do with it?~~

These are quite a lot of questions and few information. If you need anything I am more than happy to provide any information.

Sys Info

  • Linux Mint Cinnamon 22

  • Linux Kernel 6.8

  • CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

  • GPU AMD Navi 33 Radeon 7600 XT

  • RAM 16GB @3600mHz | 36GB Swap

I am running Linux Mint 22 with Cinnamon v6.2.9 on kernel v6.8.0-53-generic and would like to upgrade to a newer kernel. I tried via the update Manager, but the newest kernel listed is the one already in use and I am wondering why?

  • Are the kernels listed based on my hardware?
  • Is my Cinnamon version too old for newer kernels?
  • Is my Mint Version too old for newer kernels?
  • Do I need to update my BIOS? I was too scared to do that in the past three years I owned my system.

Here are my specs:

  • CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5800x
  • GPU nVidia GTX 1060 6GB
  • 16 GB RAM @ 3600mHz
  • MoBo MSI B550 A-Pro

I quite new to Linux and don't really know what I am doing. Therefore, if you need any other information I'll be happy to provide it.

I hope it's okay to ask this question here, since it seems to differ a little from general posts.

I am currently looking to upgrade my workstation GPU and AMD's pricing is far better suited for my budget. But I worry a lot about the driver stability, since I witnessed some true horror stories with AMD drivers back in 2020. I have also read that they've gotten a lot better in the meantime.

So if you happen to use an AMD GPU: How was your experience with productivity software (Unity, UE, Maya, blender etc.) so far?

[Solved]PC froze, now what? (discuss.tchncs.de)

What do I do, when my PC freezes?

Windows has ctrl+alt+del, does Linux Mint has something comparable? The only thing I know about is REISUB, but that borked my PC, so I am hesitant to use that again.

Are there any remaining alternatives to waiting and/or using the power button?

Edit: Thank you all for your insights and possible fixes. Crashes usually happened when I was running (cpu/ram?) heavy workload. Increasing swap space was not even on my radar, so I did that now. :) Hopefully Mint will run more stable now.

Hi there, I am currently looking for a replacement for my GTX1060.

existing hardware

  • CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5800x

  • RAM 16GB DDR4 @3600mHz

  • Motherboard MSI b550a-pro

  • PSU 750W

  • Usecase: Unreal Engine 5 and Jedi Fallen Order are the most expensive things I can think of

  • Budget ~300€

  • OS Linux Mint (Linux Kernel 6.8)

  • I was originally thinking about going with an AMD RX7600 since it's cheap and meets the recommended specs for Unreal Engine 5 (8GB VRAM, Raytracing).

Asking in other forums the intel Arc B580 was recommended. It looks promising, but since Arc GPUs are quite new, I am worried about compatibility and stability.

Are any of you using an Arc GPU at the moment and what are your experiences in Linux, primarily with productivity?

How stable are the drivers in your experience?

Could you recommend going with intel or sticking to AMD for the best experience?

Hi, I am planning to get my first wireless/BT headphones for my phone. But since GrapheneOS has always had minor bugs, I wanted to ask how reliable listening to bt speakers has been for you?

Hi there, I started using Linux Mint Cinnamon a few days ago and am currently setting up my workspace, that includes software I can't find through the integrated Software Manager

My biggest issue is that I don't understand how to determine if software is compatible with Mint. Often devs declare their product to be compatible with ubuntu. Since Linux Mint is based on ubuntu, does that make the software automatically compatible?
