It won't let me upload a picture but I will try adding it to the comments.

But I have an HP Envy x360 and did a cheap/sloppy "repair" of the left hinge (cold welded it). When I was putting the screen back on, I ended up shattering a place which fell out, about 2 inches x 0.5 inches (5 cm x 1.27 cm) near the right hinge, and then a smaller area on the left hinge which has stayed in place. The screen itself is fine - it's below the screen where the hp logo is that is broken.

Is there anything (cheap) I can put on it to keep from breaking further, like electrical tape or something else?

I can't afford to buy a new screen (or hinges) which is why I cold welded it in the first place.

Thanks for your help

Screenshot of a Facebook post which says:This was literally mailed to me [redacted]knowing our neighborhood, we're fairly certain it was a neighbor. don't care WHAT your beliefs, political stance, religious beliefs are... you do not threaten ANYONE... especially like this... over a MAGA flag. So we posted in our neighborhood group. "To ANY one that thinks this is funny.. You have an issue, SHOW your face. Come talk to me. Threaterning a COMBAT VETERAN & a family with young children? Absolutely DISGUSTING. And I thought being called a Nazi by our neighbor was bad. HA! Funny how it's anonymous."

~~I didn't get a screenshot of the "statement" from town officials...which is somehow worse than the screenshot above.~~ Edit: found it, posted in comments

Good point

Random totally related story - The last place I lived at most people didn't want any more housing whatsoever (affordable or otherwise). It was a major issue for town elections. Those same people were also complaining that the town wasn't growing 🙄

Very exclusive. Invite only. It's a perk - you might say a "plus" - of Google!

Wait a second....

(Do you have an email?)

True, but it is still gross to me

Facebook screenshot which says "They're trying to put low income housing where the parking lot behind Tony's is. It takes away 160 parking spots for workers and people trying to enjoy down town if you would like to voice your opinion on this please let me know have an email!" 10 reactions are listed with a mix of thumbs up, wow emoji, and hearts. That is exactly what stranger #1 said lol

I lost my hearing aid today.

I looked for it for 10 minutes.

I enlisted the help of strangers.

...

It was on my ear.

The End.

Hi, thank you for spending so much time on this. I feel foolish because I just had to disable chameleon. But I really appreciate it as I am still learning Linux and I think it makes me forget the simple stuff.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Thanks, I'll look at it. for now disabling chameleon worked

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Thanks, turns out I still had chameleon enabled (as chrome, ironically) and it didn't like that.

Thanks. I just realized I did not try a different browser...mainly because I don't have a different browser haha. When I get back home I will download one and (hopefully) report back.

edit: I am a fool! Just needed to disable chameleon. thanks!

It was working fine a few weeks ago, then randomly stopped detecting mic/camera. Did Google get tired of me not using Chrome? Lol

I have an old HP envy 360 (internal camera and mic) Fedora 41 with KDE Plasma Firefox browser

Zoom (app), Updox (browser), and a few others still work fine. I set it to always allow camera & mic but no dice.

Old forum posts sadly did not fix it either :(

I certainly did.

I was taking a wooden box apart and realized I grabbed the wrong bit. Rather than go get the correct one I used my extremely hard head and decided to make the wrong bit work. The screws were not fooled.

On the bright side, I successfully turned a <5 minute activity into a 2+ hour project. Go me!

Hi my fellow Lemmings and friends!

I need to get a second number, and I would prefer not to use Google Voice. I have an Android phone and it needs to be a USA (+1) number.

What are the reputable, privacy friendly apps for this? It would be amazing if it was free but I will not hold my breath on that.

😸

You helped me a lot with my move! I appreciate it.

The forecast for my area next week has temps as low as -20F (-28C), with a lower windchill (I think around -30F/-34C). We will have snow on the ground but I don't believe it is expected to snow on the coldest days. Side note - we are around 4500ft/1372m above sea level.

So far the winter has been pretty mild and hasn't gone below 0F/-17C at all. Snow has also been sparse with I think less than 2 inches (5cm) each time, quickly melting. So I haven't gotten a chance to really get used to such cold temps. We can get some pretty fast winds. I think it mostly sticks between 20-25 mph (32-40 kph). Also a very arid climate. I have a hard time getting my home above 30% humidity. Not sure on the outdoor numbers.

Is there anything different I should be doing for myself and for my dogs? I feel like these temps are dangerous for exposed skin? Not sure.

One of my dogs has medium length hair and the other one is short hair.

For me I have stuff like longjohns, thicker sweatpants, sweatshirts, windbreaker, I also have a wool coat. Then like thicker socks and some fur lined boots. - I'm thinking I need to add a scarf or something for my face and then also make myself wear gloves? I have some sheepskin gloves so I was thinking of putting on like regular winter gloves and then the sheepskin over it?

For the dogs they have a wind resistant fur lined coat and then some winter shoes. So I'm guessing they need something for their head - I have a soft head covering for them but it is slightly too big and keeps falling over their eyes when we practice wearing it. Do I need to get them something that covers their legs and belly better as well?

I was also wondering if I should even be taking them out at all when it's that cold. I mean I know it is that cold often elsewhere but they are used to the dry heat of the south of the US and I don't want them to end up not wanting to go outside ever again haha.

I still feel very unprepared for winter weather so I hope my fellow Lemmings can help!

In the USA. Would be great if the calculator also had a state version but it's ok if not.

I was awarded SSDI this year and am currently withdrawing money from my IRA to stay afloat.

I found the IRS forms - mainly in publication 915 - to calculate my tax burden, but because I also got a lump some from SSDI backpay this year it feels too complicated.

Basically I am trying to see if it makes sense from a tax perspective to withdraw more from my IRA before the end of the year or to wait til next year, and if so, how much more.

I am single and only ever do the standard deduction. I don't think I qualify for the earned income credit or any other credits that I'm aware of. I'm not in a state with the new IRS direct file program unfortunately.

So does anyone know of a basic calculator I can run different amounts through?

Thanks

Hi!

I recently switched to Fedora 40 from Windows 10 and have finally started working on getting my games going. I have the KDE Plasma desktop version.

I have a lot of mods in Stardew, which I was able to get installed successfully using Vortex and Wine.

But, Stardew is not recognizing my save files, and Steam doesn't know that I'm playing.

Where should I start looking? It's definitely an issue with how I set up Vortex and Steam but I don't know how to fix it.

Vortex is set up through Wine and Steam is the Linux version (I think Proton is included on Steam under compatibility too). One of the instructions I found said to do symlinks from the .steam folder and place it into home/[user]/Games. A different one said to also make symlinks into home/[user]/Documents/Games. I never deleted the one under documents but Vortex is directed to the home/[user]/Games directory, which itself is linked to the apps folder under .steam

My save files are on my computer and not corrupted - they are in the .config folder. I tried linking the save files into the Vortex folder in .wine and that didn't work either. I also tried putting it in the relevant area under .steam folder but no dice. I never did symlinks before so I am not sure if that was a decent way to do it or not. I feel like I tried so many things I am not sure which folders I can remove now! Maybe in a different life I am more organized.

Stardew itself loads fine, if a little slow (my computer is a dinosaur) (still faster than when I had Windows!). I was able to select the mod settings from the home screen so it does recognize the mods, just not the save files.

I have hundreds of hours in Stardew so I would be grateful to be able to access my previous saves!

Thanks in advance!

I'll never understand why we pretend that things are this expensive.

USA, of course, because I can't imagine anywhere else in the world working this much harder and not at all smarter.

FYI, Medicare is our government insurance for older or disabled people and is paid for mainly with taxpayer dollars as well as "small" premiums by members.

Screenshot of an itemized bill. The first line is a charge for an initial outpatient appointment lasting longer than 60 minutes, and is for 679 USD. The second line is a payment from Medicare for 149.49 USD. There is a third line for a Medicare Adjustment of 491.38 USD. The total patient responsibility is listed at the bottom and is 38.13 USD.

I guess the process is probably similar in other countries but included my country anyway since I don't know enough about this stuff. Feel free to respond even if you're in another country!

I received injuries from using a product that is available internationally, but not sure how many or where they have actually sold. Later this week an investigator is going to come to my home to take pictures of the product. I feel like they must be doing something else too? Maybe an interview? It seems weird to come all the way out here for some photographs. If it matters, the manufacturer itself is located in a different country.

Thanks for any information provided!
