"If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear" is their own argument! I feel it's only fair to hold them to their own standards, even if they themselves refuse to.

Dunno about the Ghandi situation, but a book that talks about how unions were forced into violence to get their pay from thieving industrial barons, among other examples of violence being the only way people claw back what they're owed from the ruling class is A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn.

I think any cop who disagrees with this should get transvestigated.

I don't know what you're currently accustomed to or what the feature/workflow differences would be, but I've had some music folks I know be successful with Ardour and Reaper. Have you checked to see if those would let you do your thing? The other problem I've had is audio interface support in Linux, but that seems to have improved a lot. I've got an old Axe I/O Solo that didn't work at all a few years ago but now seems to have full support.

Probably God Awful Movies, I would guess.

Honestly, "corporate mainstream media sucks" is a thing most people agree on. I know a guy who voted for Trump at least once who has been turning away from that kind of politics lately, and it's this kind of message I hear him repeating. Now, I'm sure we have different views on how to solve that and what alternative sources should be used, but if it's something to agree on, then maybe it's a point of leverage.

Sure, I'll take a citizen-led board of reviewers, as long as they have legal teeth and aren't under the purview of those being evaluated.

I'm the whitest white guy who ever whited, but I don't trust the police for the same reasons.

I told my father, a Nazi and former cop (but I repeat myself), that body cams should be turned on from the moment a cop is on duty to the moment they are not, that this data should be live-streamed to servers where the footage can be reviewed by the public and become subject to feedback. He RAILED against this, crying about how cops would never have any privacy, etc. (completely missing the point and the detail of what I said because he's completely reactionary, like cops tend to be).

I'm an open source code developer. My code, including the often dumb and embarrassing errors I make from time to time, are available to the world for immediate scrutiny the instant I push a commit or open a pull request. My code isn't really the kind of thing involved in life or death situations. So why should I be subject to more direct scrutiny than cops? Why should we allow cops this whiney attitude toward job evaluation?

Nursing home? They can figure that out on their own or they can eat shit. I'm not doing anything for those fucking Nazis anymore.

I don't pretend to know how to accomplish this. I may be completely wrong here, but two things that have to go:

  • Religious thought ("faithbrain" or the Peter Pan-esque belief that things are true because you believe they are true, despite a lack of evidentiary or even argumentative support, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary)
  • Social media bubbles (billionaires controlling the content people see, creating bubbles of "information" that skew the public in their favor)

There's almost certainly more to do as well, but those things stand out to me. Also, it seems hard to believe that we could make any progress on these fronts given the current situation.
