"Derogatory"
Lmao
Respectful disagree. People raised now, particularly Americans, exist in a bubble of ignorance and relative safety, often finding it hard to believe a certain kind of danger is happening right up until the last minute. A gunman isn't really firing an automatic weapon at my workplace is he? What, like in Die Hard? That jet isn't about to hit my apartment building with a missile right? What is this, a Call of Duty game? Are Russians really waging psychological war on democracies around the world? Like in a Tom Clancy novel?
Stop disassociating. Stop denying. He seig heiled twice. The people who don't want to believe that are in serious danger and need to be shaken lucid. Like, pfft, what is this, one of those Wolfenstein reboots? These fictional worlds drew inspiration from somewhere. They were our ways to cope and make stacks off the pain and fear that preceeded them. It isn't playing wolf. Reality will rip your throat out in the woods.
Maybe sports shouldn't be the barometer for who gets to particiate in society? Sports are the most acceptable right to strip away from a group, as the right to play a sport isn't a civil/human right, its particiation in a game. Conpetition is the secondary motivation compared to the primary motivation that people like social games where they can roughhouse.
For a country that loves sports so much people really are being two faced snakes pretending not to grasp the significance of that. No sports today, back of the bus tomorrow. We don't want to play games with you = We don't see you as human.
Arguing about the power the Supreme Court gave the executive while Biden was in office and whether or not he should use it or whether or not the SCOTUS would rule against his use as "official act of the president" and if that was a betrayal of the country's democratic values a thought kept running thru my head and that was Joe, you know they're going to put Hunter in a hole right?
He knew on some level. That's why he pardoned him. Let's see if it works!
And yet discussing progress in this manner can be a confort. All that you said was true... But what the person you replied said was also true. Two generations since fertilizer or two generations since we locked in Malthusian anarchy[please note I do not espouse Malthusianism]. Three generations since the worst war known to man and three generations that did not experience that kind of war. Glass half full, glass half empty. It's correct to question the myth of unstoppable progress thru which you can just kick your feet up and relax. But equally is it important to keep perspective remember that, yeah, eight generations ago chattel slavery was a bonafide institution and four generations women were unfranchised. Things get better and they get worse. We make progress and it is wiped away. We still keep trying.
I'm honestly not sure what this refers to in recent memory unless you're talking about the initial battlefield victories, executing Hussein, killing Bin Laden, or dropping MOAB to make ourselves feel better. We fled Afghanistan with our tails between our leg, left a power vacuum in our wake and the people to be ruled by their theocrats. It was godawful and we lost stupendously more than we gained at least in the public sector. Nice agitprop though I guess.
