They do, and that’s the point.

Goddamnit this one got me pretty good

As a Colts fan, I’m sorta tired of backup quarterbacks.

Management: Gee whiz, we really have no idea how to gauge productivity to decide who gets promoted. We could manage. Or, better, we could just have someone write a script that pulls info from git on how many lines of code each person has written.

I bought some 3D printing filament direct from the manufacturer. It got shipped to me by… Amazon. From an Amazon warehouse. I guess that’s how they do fulfillment. 🤷‍♂️

I’ll give that a try next time!

My preferences keep getting reset to the defaults. Not sure why - it’s not just when the app updates, or when it’s booted from memory.

Kind of a pain to go through and redo my gestures and appearance settings every week or two.

It’s a lot harder to win with fully inflated footballs and without video footage of opponents’ sidelines.

Not necessarily. A lot of podcasts are hosted by places that detect your ip and splice in location-targeted ads for each individual download. Hence OP’s struggle with timestamps.

Even off of Spotify etc, the source is poisoned.

DHH with a pants-on-head stupid argument just because he hates the big players in tech? Must be a day ending in Y again.

My cat Luna died five years ago next week. She was the best cat that ever existed and there’s still a hole in my heart.

:(

The Nobel committees frequently give prizes in an area that really have more to do with other areas. Six of the last ten Nobels in Chemistry have been explicitly biology focused. Two more were materials science stuff, so maybe half chemistry. Only two were what I’d consider actual chemistry.

But this one is pretty rough. The Nobel Prize in Physics goes to setting the world’s energy reserves on fire so coked-up executives’ lines can go up and basement-dwellers can generate waifus with big tiddies. UGH

One even worse thing about smart tv’s - they come with a bunch of free “channels” you can watch. If you have streaming services or cable, who cares?

Except the people that don’t – rural folk who never would pay for cable – gobble it up. And it’s all right wing propaganda garbage. From Fox News to Newsmax, they’ve got every kind of anxiety-inducing conspiracy-laden “news” you can watch.

The new College of Dance Bard subclass looks like it will be really fun. Unarmed strikes whose damage scales with Bardic Inspiration dice and uses Dex. Unarmored Defense that adds Charisma. Bonus action unarmed strikes when you use Bardic Inspiration.

You get to be 3/4 of a Monk, but also be a Face, and also be a full caster, and also get half proficiency in everything. And then the level six stuff buffs your party’s initiative and movement to the point it’ll be very hard to get the drop on you.

A fantastic new subclass all around.

Famously, Oppenheimer and co worked out how close a nuclear bomb test would be to causing a chain reaction of nitrogen fusion in the atmosphere. They made a lot of worst-case-scenario assumptions and still came to the conclusion that no, a nuclear bomb test wouldn’t scour the surface of the world.

But let’s say the atmosphere was twice as dense as it is. Or ten times as dense. At what point would that calculation turn very, very scary?

Obligatory xkcd

Edit: man, seriously, most of the people ‘answering’ this question didn’t even read it.

Clearly, AR is the way forward. And Minshew played as well as he could last year and has been rewarded with a likely starting role.

But man, I’m gonna miss that guy. And if AR gets hurt again it’s hard to imagine a backup who will step up like Minshew did.

Not everyone wants to defederate with trolls, which is fine. But I’d like to hide posts and comments from instances that never seem to make Lemmy a nicer place.

For instance, it would be cool to configure Avalon such that any comment by a user from hexbear be hidden until tapped. (And I’d probably never tap it.)

Lots of corrective actions to complete, but it’s a step.
