Yes, you need internet to use the “smart” features of the TV. No, you don’t need internet to just use the TV. You can connect any device that is supported by the ports on the TV, for example a Raspberry PI with a DOS emulator or for example an Apple TV to replace the “smart” part of the TV.

Giving me news about US "actions"…

You do realize that OPs article is about a US “action”? You’ve now been informed and might be able to take action like voting accordingly, writing to your representatives etc.

Or, as per my initial comment, you could’ve ignored US news and would be none the wiser.

Edit: one more thing, you know the US-made/Tesla boycotts happening all over the world? They’d not be happening if everyone ignored US politics.

Where did I say we should focus on another country? Why does everything have to be black and white?

There are shades in between ignoring and focusing on you know?

I can hear the echoes of people saying “why should I care about US politics?”

This is one example. The biggest problems we face as humanity can only be solved with a global effort.

my body weight in bees. Which now that I've said it out loud, is sort of terrifying

Not sure I understand correctly, did you imagine your body made out of bees? If so and if you like reading sci-fi you might enjoy Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Dogs of War.

I appreciate your reply and understand your perspective. I still don’t fully agree, it might be a matter of the point of view from which you look at this issue. But I think in essence we are on the same page.

Thanks for not abandoning the discussion!

The fact that this works just shows that most ~~Americans~~ humans are idiots

FTFY. If you believe that people in your country would be different when put in the same situation then I’m sorry but you are one of the idiots.

no obligation to help (unlike literally all of your examples)

How are my other examples obligated to help? They can find a different occupation if they have children that would lose a parent if something happened while they were on the job.

She ran away from her family like a coward to get out of dealing with them, to play soldier and be used as a bad PR piece.

You know that how? Did she say so? Or is it your interpretation of her situation?

If she'd prefer not to be in that situation, she had every ability not to be

Oh yeah, it’s super easy to get out of a moral dilemma. Sorry, must’ve slipped my mind.

Imagine telling your children you were willing and able to help those less fortunate than you but chose not to.

And I’m pretty sure she’d prefer not to have to be in that position.

Where do you draw the line who is worthy of helping? Your family? Your neighbors? Your city?…

Or is it solely because she’s a woman and expected to take care of the children? Would it be different if her husband was in the army and was sent to help?

What about doctors who help in foreign countries under heightened risk? What about firefighters helping everywhere they can?

I’m genuinely curious what you would call this and what distinguishes it from a vulnerability.

Leaving aside responsibility, the system could have been set up in a way that wouldn’t have exposed user data but wasn’t. This is now fixed and user data isn’t exposed via this method any longer. What is the right word for what it was at the moment this flaw was discovered?

I vaguely remember the same story when he bought twitter and got called out by a senior dev for not understanding shit. History repeating itself speedrun any%?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I’d argue that it is still a vulnerability in this scenario. But point taken, it’s always important to find the root cause and not just put blame on the person who stumbled into the trap.

If yes, which word(s) and how does it manifest?

(I’ll leave mine as a comment)

I’m just looking for a simple 2D floor planner that is easy to use and has the ability to show measurements.

The two most recommended open source tools I’ve seen have shortcomings.

Sweet Home 3D:

  • Very 3D centric, which over complicates things.
  • Project was recently acquired/handed off to a company and the iOS version is published by “AI Photo Editor Lab SRL”

draw.io / diagrams.net:

  • Very finicky to set up and create floor plans
  • To display measurements one has to add measurement objects to every wall/object

Does anyone have other recommendations?

I’m looking for a way to keep an eye on open source software I’m using, especially if there are detrimental changes. Like for example when there’s an acquisition (Raivo Authenticator) or the project has not been updated in a long time (potentially posing a security risk).

But I don’t want to have to read about every project, just the ones I’m using.

Anyone got any ideas?
