Yep, that's how it goes. Thin-skinned people will defederate from you just because you federate with some other people. Some instances defederate from you because of arguments over frontends. Some instances defederate from everyone (Gab).
They usually have this funny idea that if they defederate from a group of people, that their posts get through and get exposure but not vice-versa. What they don't get is that users typically mute instances that don't federate with them, so it ends up being two-way most of the time.
