been a programmer for nearly 25 years now.. i understand what you mean. i find a lot of joy in not just making a program "go", but building it elegantly and efficiently. there are a lot of design guidelines and patterns that make that easier and more predictable, but i always feel there is a lot of value in trusting your sense of aesthetic and building stuff by way of discovery and refinement, sculpting.

yes! I used to live there. it's bonkers.

Basically all the lakefront property is not owned by people directly, but leased under highly permissive terms from a single entity (ominously named "The Lake Corporation") so they can apply restrictions about land use to owners to prohibit public access, and act collectively to try and prevent public access attempts. It's basically a Union for rich people to use to collectively bargain to keep poors away from them. totally wild.

They exert undue influence over the city's politics which is usually evident by their inherent inequity and hostility to non-members in the city.. but the county they're in (Clackamas) tends to fight them a lot. The city's officials are usually in tight with the Lake Corp (or ARE Lake Corp) so it's basically a corporation vs the county/state trying to keep poor people away.

The city's dedicated police force, unsurprisingly, are very keen on the Lake Corp... so even if you (legally) access the lake, they will send a boat out to hassle you until they find a reason to move you along - usually with the lie "you had to trespass to get here. you can leave and we'll drop it, or you can make this hard"

"get" or "acquire" or "add to collection" or "snag".. or any other vomit inducing roundabout corporate speak

I love how there's basically nothing but love for Tool in these comments. I'm a big fan of whatever Maynard James Keenan's touching. I adore Puscifer and listen constantly (Grand Canyon is my current obsessive-replay song.. once again), APC literally always fucks hard so it's always an option, and Tool scratches an itch I can't get anywhere else. Saw Tool live finally, too, just like last year.

they're so full of themselves they cannot conceive of someone who doesn't want to comply with them and get a moment of fame on TV. that person denying to be on camera probably destroyed his mood for the whole day as he wondered what he did- "there's no way she hates me so much she doesn't want to be seen on TV next to me... I'm famous!"

been noticing the conservatives on Twitter freaking out over the music rights thing, rattling on about how "music should be for everyone". which is a hoot, because like, wait, you're telling me you want to take the property of someone else, which they invested time and money into producing, and redistribute it to all people who want it?? HMMMM that sounds like something...

I've had a few folks delete their tweets but for the most part they just ignore it or call me very stupid and evil (their go-to when they have no argument) lmao. I actually engaged one Maga musician because he was afraid of what would happen if we allowed the right's "musical socialism" discussion to continue.

they're so high from sniffing each other's farts that they believe the grift. they think they're gonna go in and see a mostly empty auditorium and "prove" that everyone is ai or actors. they think they're gonna drop a bomb of truth onto random dnc-goers and they'll go "omg! I didn't know! you're right, I do hate demons!" and flip. they think they're geniuses with secret knowledge that's as plain as day. they think they're going to catch them doing ritual abortions or some shit in the cafeteria and be famous for outing the secret demonrat cabal with proof finally. they're delusional and starved for the spotlight.

they call him Genocide Joe if they think it will bother the liberal they're speaking to. if they think it will hurt their enemy, they do not require something they say to align with their principles.

if we get hurt whether we help people or not, shouldn't we just always help people? we're gonna get slapped anyway.

they loudly advertise positions they know are controversial because it's a win/win for them. someone confronts them? they have a claim of being victimized for their beliefs and quite possibly the chance to violently defend themselves and become famous conservative celebrities like Rittenhouse. if nobody confronts them? they feel like strong powerful men because "everyone is too scared to come face them". this is probably the only time in their lives they can feel like strong successful males like this, so it becomes an addiction. it leads to more and more garish advertisement of controversy to get either one outcome or the other.

saaame. I am very unintentionally Maga coded. I went to a pride event recently and to get in I was walking past it to get to the end of the line. walked past a single guy (white, little pudgy, your average 20 something Maga) holding Trump signs and I walk past and he goes "hey brother! wanna--" and goes to hand me a sign and I couldn't help the look of disgust I gave him with a little "ugh.." and he seemed absolutely gutted. he was gone when I got back to the same corner while in line. I like to think he saw me waiting in line and couldn't face the threat of conflict over his mistake.
