Few indie games in recent memory have carved out such a distinct identity as Pepper Grinder. Developed by Ahr Ech and published by Devolver Digital, this 2D action-platformer blends high-octane gameplay with an aesthetic and control scheme that instantly sets it apart from the crowded indie scene. Originally launched in March 2024 for Nintendo Switch and PC, the game has continued to expand its reach and improve its experience — and it’s more than deserving of your attention in 2025.

From their website about page.

Shattered Pixel is the internet home-base and trade-name for Evan Debenham, that’s me! You may also know me by 00-Evan, which is a handle I usually use for accounts on various services or games. This website hosts the various things I work on, which at the moment is mostly Shattered Pixel Dungeon and blog posts about Shattered Pixel Dungeon.

I started Shattered Pixel Dungeon in late 2014, a few days after Pixel Dungeon went open source. My motivation at the time was realizing that I was headed toward a regular computer science career path, but really wanted to get into games, and was seriously late in starting on that. Pixel Dungeon going open source seemed like a great opportunity to get my feet wet.

What was originally supposed to be a project that lasted a few months ended up ballooning into a multi-year project because of the community’s overwhelmingly positive reaction. Shattered started as a rebalance mod and has grown into its own game, which shares a base and some assets with Pixel Dungeon.

My initial idea for this community was indeed to focus on FOSS, homebrew, demake, and one-person games, but then I thought that it might be too niche of a community and was not sure exactly where to draw the line at what point would an indie game would be too big for this community. So I changed my mind to allow any indie game, but I would focus more on smaller stuff with once in a while posting a bigger title. Celeste is mentioned in magazine #2 as a recommended game. I would love to see people sharing their own creations and receiving praise and/or constructive criticism from others. I also allow NSFW games to be posted here, which I think other communities do not allow.

In the future, I might also allow game mods and ROM hacks, but I have not decided yet.

Thank you for your kind words, it helps to keep being motivated and continue. As for text adventure communities I only know of https://textadventures.co.uk/ and the Choice beat zine, which focuses on interactive fiction in general but has a lot info about text adventure games. I will try my best to make the next issue interesting and even better.

Thanks I see but I do not think I can do anything about it, since it shows correctly on my end. I am using mbin and not lemmy. So it might be a problem with lemmy or with the app you are using.

Both are fun for me at least, I guess when it is very hot I would go to the beach, but if it just warm a nice hike in the forest would be good.

I tried to play through but eventually it became to difficult for me I could not react fast enough if I remember correctly. But I agree it is a good game.
