The Islamic Action Front, a political party linked to the regionwide Brotherhood, won the most seats in parliamentary elections held last year against the backdrop of mass protests against Israel over its war with Hamas.

The monarchy banned the Muslim Brotherhood a decade ago but officially licensed a splinter group and continued to tolerate the Islamic Action Front while restricting some of its activities. It was not immediately clear how far the latest ban would go.

Police surrounded and searched the Islamic Action Front’s headquarters after Wednesday’s announcement and seized several boxes of documents.

The Interior Ministry said the Muslim Brotherhood is now considered an illegal organization and announced a ban on any political activities related to the group and the closure of its offices. It said efforts to confiscate the group’s assets would be accelerated.

When a community needs to move to another instance, it can be a rocky process.

It doesn't need to be, though - as long as someone on your instance has been a part of the community for a while your instance will already have quite a lot of the content from the old community. All we need to do is change our record of which instance the community belongs to and that's what PieFed's new 'Move community' feature does. Check out the video for a quick demo.

The full process is:

1. Ensure the copy of the community on this instance has been active long enough to receive a decent amount of posts. The move process will not copy posts so having an account on this instance subscribed to it for a while is the only way to get old posts here.

2. Lock the old community to by setting it to 'moderators only' so no one else can post in it.

3. Create a post in the old community announcing the impending move to piefed.social. Paste the url of that post into the field below.

4. Submit the 'move community' form (there is a link in the sidebar of every remote community) to send the request to piefed.social admins.

5. piefed.social admins will review your request, turn this community into a local one and contact you.

6. Update your announcement post in the old community to encourage people to join the new community at

I've been thinking of this for a long time, but have there been any serious attempts on getting the subreddits of your ethnic group / country on switching to lemmy?

Feels pretty lonely on lemmy, since there are only 6 (including me, and afaik) arabs/1 other person from my country. And i'm guessing it can feel barren for some in the same way.

Would it be a good idea to go on subreddits like r/denmark, r/estonia, r/arabs, r/kurdistan (for kurds), etc and promote lemmy? What do you think would be the response? What communities would we do? Is it a good idea?

Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed 56 civilians in a series of attacks on a town in Darfur along the road to the city of el-Fasher.

Activists from a local resistance committee said the killings in Um Kadadah were carried out on Thursday and Friday "on an ethnic basis".

Um Kadadah, which lies around 180km east of el-Fasher - the last city in Darfur held by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) - was recaptured by the RSF on Thursday.

The RSF has been at war with the SAF since April 2023 in a conflict that has displaced more than 10 million people and left over 12 million facing high levels of acute food insecurity.

Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed 56 civilians in a series of attacks on a town in Darfur along the road to the city of el-Fasher.

Activists from a local resistance committee said the killings in Um Kadadah were carried out on Thursday and Friday "on an ethnic basis".
