This is 100% a thing that Misato would do.

Ok, didn't realise the shooter's race and gender were apparent from footage. They could have framed someone with a marginalized identity otherwise.

If he was framed by an algorithm, though, it was a pretty shitty algorithm. Luigi's political views were all over the place, and I don't remember any indications of him even supporting or advocating violence. Meanwhile there are still plenty of actual radical leftists on the internet. Was he really the most convincing scapegoat they could find? Pretty sure I could do better by manually scrolling Twitter.

If this man were to voice any sentiments short of full-throated Trump endorsement, would it make him more likely to see his wife again?

He could be terminally stupid, or this could just be the MAGA version of respectability politics. Pretending you're still one of the good ones so the leopards stay away from your face long enough for you and your loved ones to escape.

But... why him? They could have framed literally any convicted felon, and have a much easier time with the jury. Why would they choose an attractive cis white male engineer?

Algorithms, mate. Algorithms...

Except that they probably don't think that.

However, they might think that a professor exposing himself to his students is an abuse of power and sexual harassment, due to the local cultural consensus around what that specific action means, and the unequal relationship between teacher and student.

Good! In a culture that worships cops and "thought leaders", this is two steps up from meekly accepting whatever powerful people say.

Now it's time for:
(3) Acting on your ethical convictions towards specific goals, and learning to work with people who share them, even when their motivations or values are different.

P.S. As others here have stated, (1) and (2) are not contradictory. If morality is constructed, then we all construct our own. Unless you actually WANT to be an amoral bastard.

For what it's worth, I agree with you in this case, and I'm sorry about your Dad. I hope he sees reason soon.

Repost, since apparently a lot of people haven't internalized this: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/21216426

Not aimed at this community in particular; just the overall trend in discussion on the Fediverse in general.

Maybe you were put off by the... unique site design, but consider that Greg Palast has been doing this kind of work and getting ignored since the 80s(!). He's talked about voter suppression since 2008 at least. He probably knows that looking 'professional' doesn't matter anymore, because MSM will never give him his due.

Lots of people consciously don't vote, for reasons you may disagree with. They are not the reason we lost this election. Please, let's stop eating our own allies alive.
