Whatever you may think of the parents for this, I don't suspect the other children would be much better off in the foster care system.

They're trying to get around it by saying this does not actually shut down the DoE. All this executive order does is instruct Linda to, like, wind down operations, basically everything except collecting loans, surprise surprise. That way they can say they haven't closed the department and therefore it's not illegal. This is no doubt to buy time hoping that midterms give them a bigger majority to actually close it with Congress.

Honestly not even completely unbelievable.

I cannot comment on the apple ecosystem, and personally don't have any experience with other apps doing what Discord is doing with these.

I acknowledge they are ads. I suppose I have a different tolerance than you.

Granted, I already pay for Nitro so I was not aware that was a thing.

I saw Revolt Chat recommended on another post but to me it looks like early Discord that will, eventually, just head to the same place with monetization. It doesn't have video as of now either from what I could tell.

Before everyone freaks completely out, the headline is a little bit clickbaity. Yes, they are ads, and yes they will be on mobile, so I suppose that technically wasn't a lie. But they are probably not what you're expecting based on reading "mobile ads" alone.

Desktop Discord has had "quests" for a little while now. You watch a thing and then get a thing. Normally it's an in-game item, or might be a temporary discord profile frame or something.

These are optional and in my experience they've only popped up once a month or so. They are a mild annoyance to hide once in a while at worst and at best I have watched one or two for games I actually play.

This is that, coming to mobile now.

You may well be right, and I don't mean to defend Discord or even the feature. I just think a lot of people here were misunderstanding exactly what it was that was being introduced to mobile.

I think people are reading the headline only and thinking this will be mandatory ad views on mobile to, like, just use Discord.

This is an existing thing on desktop already that they are porting over to mobile. It's an optional ad you can choose to watch in order to gain in-game rewards for various games. Or sometimes a discord profile frame or something.

Looks like no video calls or screensharing? If so, unfortunately won't be a viable replacement for me.

Also, looks like there are self hosting options but they seem clumsy? From what I read, and happy to be corrected, a self hosted instance is completely separated from the rest of the Revolt ecosystem, meaning new accounts and everything for each.

I'm also curious how they will upkeep the servers without any kind of monetization.

I mean, they do get "rewards". Discord has been doing quests for a while now, even video ones, on desktop. It sounds like maybe this is just the existing feature coming to mobile? For example, I watched an ad for MH Wilds to get in game items.

It's pretty strange, come to think of it. Who exactly is this convincing to buy MH Wilds? I watched it because I already had MH Wilds. So, for me, I watched an ad for a game I already bought for some items. But, why would I do that if I didn't already have the game?

Weird lol.

I know that remakes and remasters are contentious, but let's pretend whatever game in question you're thinking of is handled with the utmost care by your favourite devs and they absolutely nail it.

Mine would be Shadow of Memories (called Shadow of Destiny in North America). It's legitimately one of my favourite games of all time but it kinda flew under the radar and I haven't met many people who know of it let alone played it. Seeing it get modern graphics, maybe some expanded mechanics, would be soooo cool.

Disclaimer: this is purposefully obtuse.

Other effects in the game which explicitly state they kill you:

Shadows, succubi, massive damage, death saving throws, beholder death ray (notably not even their disintegration ray kills you), power word kill, vampires, mind flayers, night hags, drow inquisitors.

Clearly, if they intended for disintegration to kill you, they'd have said so. Since specific overrides general, and there is no general rule that disintegrated creatures are dead, I rest my case. QED.

I currently have a hodgepodge of solutions for my hosting needs. I play ttrpgs online, so have two FoundryVTT servers hosted on a pi. Then I have a second pi that is hosting Home Assistant. I then also have a synology device that is my NAS and hosts my Plex server.

I'm looking to build a home server with some leftover parts from a recent system upgrade that will be my one unified server doing all the above things in the same machine. A NAS, hosting a couple Foundry instances, home assistant, and plex/jellyfin.

My initial research has me considering Unraid. I understand that it's a paid option and am okay with paying for convenience/good product. I'm open to other suggestions from this community.

The real advice I'm hoping to get here is a kind of order of operations. Assume I have decided on the OS I want to use for my needs, and my system is built. What would you say is the best way going about migrating all these services over to the new server and making sure that they are all reachable by web?
