I use Brave and I actually really like it, but I don't recommend it to other people because the crypto shit is frankly kind of embarrassing. It takes a fundamentally good piece of software and makes it feel scammy. I wish they would figure out a better business model, but it's not like I have any ideas.
I'm comfortable just turning all of it off in the settings, but I don't feel comfortable recommending it to people who are less technical than I am because I can already tell they'll be like "You said this was supposed to be more secure why is it trying to sell me crypto"
EDIT: Still, though, ultimately whenever I have to use anyone's "regular" device without adblocking and everything I'm shocked at how annoying the internet is, so Brave is doing its job haha.

However, one problem I have with Mastodon is people talk way too much about Twitter on it. IMO they should just let Mastodon be Mastodon. But, on Mastodon it's been months, with Reddit it's been like a day haha. Let people vent a little bit. But I think you're on the right track.
Yeah, it seems pretty obvious that their end goal here is to get people off of 3rd party apps and off of old.reddit so their eyeballs will be exposed to more ads. I now no longer really care how many more people there are on reddit. I'll do some silly shit to avoid looking at ads. It's almost like a religious thing for me.

Isn't this exactly how gmail treats a LOT of other email services? Email is a mess of spam and whitelists and is barely usable as a result, partially because there is no human moderation.
