Maybe uncharitably, my first thought when reading a post like this is "what shitty thing do you want to say?".

But I don't know you so maybe I am being uncharitable.

But you have to realise the fediverse in general is not owned by capitalist orgs with high priced legal teams. Its mostly small teams of private individuals. If someone posts something illegal, including defamatory, in their legal jurisdiction (which is probably not the USA) then they might be on the hook for it too.

Even if you run your own instance if you're enough of a dick it'll get defederated or you'll be banned from multiple instances/communities.

Learn to play nice in other peoples yard. Its hard sometimes but just walking away and blocking is the best option. Sometimes I need to make more effort to do that too.

"I don’t really see why people continue to blame the lockdown for why it has impacted socializing"

I'm not blaming just the lockdown but it certainly played a part. For a lot of people who are now legal adults it happened at a formative stage of their social development.

"I wouldn’t just put the magnifying glass on 4chan when Reddit and Kiwi Farms are just as bad if not worse."

True.

We live in online world that normalises abusing women gamers on Twitch, DM-ing women in order to hit on them and/or attack them on Insta or whatever, that considers sites like 4chan legitimate humour and where a web search for something like a gym membership can bombard you with scum like Tate.

Add to that the hit that people's socialisation skills took during lockdown, governments around the Westernised world normalising hate and violence as legitimate ways to get what you want and then dangle in front of them the fictional lives influencers flaunt on Instagram, TikTok etc and tell them they too could have that life if they do this that and the other oh and by the way, its totally fine to abuse women to prove your masculinity because you, as a man, are owed sex by women.

All these reasons like 'men are lonely', 'gender roles are different' - yeah they play a part but lets not pretend this shit hasn't been coming for a long time and men being sad they have less role models is no excuse for the rationalisation of violent hate that's on display.

Thatcher did the same over here. Called it 'Care in the Community' which translates as 'Vastly increasing the at risk and vulnerable unhoused population'.

"I’m from India and the word “commie” in my country is referred as a far left,"

Communism is its own thing. Whilst its not exactly inaccurate to describe it as far left, there are also lots of far left people who are not Communists.

"Why? Do they ban you if you fight like a redditor in the comments?"

That depends on the Community (subreddit) you're in and the instance you're using. They might, they might not. But the reason I said it is because people joining Lemmy solely in order to get into fights with people is not what Lemmy needs.

Tenacity is a decent (not perfect) Audacity replacement.

Lemmy is a piece of software. Its two main developers are communists. The software runs on many different servers (instances) that are mostly not communist and the two developers do not enforce any political ideology on the use or users of Lemmy (and couldn't even if they wanted to, which they clearly don't). There are two or three instances that are communist.

That said, if you're from the USA I'd hazard a guess that the word 'commie' to you is probably a person slightly to the left of Bill Clinton. At the moment, the entirety of Lemmy does lean slightly left and is generally progressive which is a refreshing change to the constant brain numbing right wing shitholes most mainstream social media sites are.

I'd urge you to not go looking for a fight. Just ignore, block and move on. This isn't reddit.

She is a successful author. She's never been a great author. Great authors know how to write with originality and imagination. JKR merely took a handful of fantasy and British empire tropes, put them in a blender with ideas 'inspired' by vastly better writers and with the help of a PR team, created a marketable franchise.

Along the way, she became consumed by an utterly irrational hatred which is now creating a horrific world for the people she targeted with her marketing money.

All I see are props for black metal album covers.

Equally strong probably but I'd assume a bear is faster and more aggressive. Also has a set of steak knives on each paw.

You've got to let him find his own way. Please don't take this as overly-critical but you do come off as sounding more like his parent than his partner. I totally get wanting to make things as easy as possible for him but you can still do that if you're a year ahead of him. And he gets the opportunity to find his feet by himself - I'm sure he'd ask you if he needed help and you giving him space also tells him that you believe in him.

Hi :)

I’m a user on this instance and also mod of a community on this instance about atheistic/nonthesitic Satanism. We are not CoS, nor TST, we are called Global Order of Satan (link is in my profile). Many of our members across the world are lgbtqia+ , possibly even a majority but we don’t really keep formalised records so its hard to say for sure.

Our UK Order (of whom I am a member) are looking into starting a campaign into the religion based abuse of conversion therapy. Obviously we knew it happened but we weren’t aware things like exorcism were used and this clearly falls within our, uh, areas of interest!

This is a delicate subject and I have no wish to trigger anyone but if anyone wanted to share (anonymised) experiences they may have had with religion-based conversion ‘therapy’ (I keep using scarequotes as its clearly pseudoscience) via DM with me, they would be very helpful in giving us some background. If you are not happy with DMing then I am also on Matrix (links also in bio) or you can mail me leraje gosatan com - you can get free anonymous email forwarding here

Edit: Anonymous cryptpad form here - Markdown keeps killing the link. you'll need to copy/paste this: https://cryptpad.fr/form/#/2/form/view/SqtKYw8b2pa%20a4u2EU0OFN9-6l5E3qGVSt9r6-U%20XQo/

There’s a reason that cookies and privacy policies (in the EU at least) have become such an online nuisance. These assurances of your safety and privacy are nothing more than a pretext to get consent. Your “anonymised” data is sold to an infinite regress of third parties, analysed, correlated and de-anonymised again. Any smart device you use, your browsing habits, banking transactions, your GPS position are all used to deduce fine grain information about you. Then weaponised against you for as much profit as possible.

Just for admin info, latest version is 0.8.16 :)

Forgive the self-promotion post but I thought this would be relevant! cross-posted from: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/19534509

I was interviewed on Moshville Radio yesterday (you can hear the show on their Mixcloud archive) and we (Moshville and GOS) made the announcement that our Satan Not Hatin' campaign will be launching a monthly two hour radio show co-hosted by myself and my friend and colleague from the campaign DoomMetalJacket of Satanistiska samfundet (GOS Sweden).

We'll be playing the music of our participating bands and artists (nearly 300 of them now), talking about news and information to do with the campaign and hopefully getting some of the bands/artists on to talk about their music and what participating in a campaign like ours means to them.

Moshville Radio broadcasts live across the UK, EU and USA and archives can be found on their Mixcloud page.

Forgive me pushing my own stuff here. As some of you know I'm a member of an atheistic Satanic organisation. We are currently running a campaign against the incursion of the far right and hate into various alt music scenes, including metal, called Satan Not Hatin'.

Today we have released a compilation album on Bandcamp called Contra Odium ("Against Hate") featuring the music of thirteen of the Satan Not Hatin' participants. They're all metal bands (plus a couple of punks) on the album and its a real mix of subgenres - Black Metal, Doom, Post, Gothic, Sludge.

Proceeds from the album will be divided amongst participating Orders (UK, Sweden, Pittsburgh and Seattle) and in turn passed on in full to charities local to each Order:

  • GOS UK: The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and Hope Not Hate
  • House of Heretics (Seattle): The Lavender Rights Project
  • Satanistiska samfundet (GOS Sweden): Transammans
  • GOS: Steel City (Pittsburgh): Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council

Melania Trump made an extraordinary declaration in an eagerly awaited memoir to be published a month from election day: she is a passionate supporter of a woman’s right to control her own body – including the right to abortion.

“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” the Republican nominee’s wife writes, amid a campaign in which Donald Trump’s threats to women’s reproductive rights have played a central role.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.

“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

Two days ago, LW started behaving very oddly. It suddenly stopped rendering pages - but only on some sites. For example, the default Lemmy skin is fine but the Alexandrite skin is not. The BBC website doesn't work either. A few others seemingly totally random.

The domain resolves and it makes the initial connection and then it takes up to a minute of doing nothing and then just craps out, unable to render the page. Checking the Inspector reveals no errors or warnings and the network inspector is making a connection but not loading anything other than headers and basic tags.

The page presents no errors it just shows a blank screen. <html> <head> and <body> tags load but nothing else.

All these pages work fine in all other browsers I've tested in (floorp, Mullvad, vanilla FFox and Brave).

Details: LibreWolf 128.0-2 (flatpak) on LMDE (Faye).

Any clues, pointers or advice very gratefully received. I love the browser and have it set up just how I like it so don't really want to switch to another.

So, as well as subbed to this Community, I'm also moderator of [email protected] which is a Community for an atheistic Satanist organisation I'm a member of.

We recently (re)launched our Satan Not Hatin' campaign which we're running to try and tackle the incidents of hate (racism, homophobia, transphobia and Nazi shit etc) that sadly some metal bands put out. The campaign isn't just for metal bands, we also cover punk/goth/industrial/alt/indie too but the emphasis is metal bands. It's early days, but it'll continue to grow.

If you'd like to read more and see how you can help (if you'd like to) please visit the page or if you want to skip straight to the music, there's a playlist on YouTube | Invidious | Piped.
