What a terrible inconvenience for you.

pyrotechnics likely caused the roof to catch fire

Will we never learn?

I was going to comment on how this tragedy is a reminder of the lessons not learned from The Station, but AP actually links to an article that curates the many repetitions of this kind of incident. This should be required reading for all night club staff.

I had the strangest experience on Reddit that was the final drop for me to leave. In a thread of lousy jokes, I commented something along the lines of "This is all the fault of Leon Trotsky of Mexico City! Let's find him and get him, boys!"

It was flagged as doxxing and I was permabanned from the subreddit. I replied to the modmail ever so gently, saying, "Whoops, it looks like my poor sense of humor may have been misinterpreted, because Trotsky was famously assassinated in 1940."

The mod came back absolutely lamenting me, riddled with explitives, further calling my username a "racist dog whistle" (my username there is the same as here but suffixed with a number). They then proceeded to attempt to have me banned sitewide for "abusing modmail," although I was ultimately only suspended for 7 days.

The whole thing just left me so confused. But boy was that mod upset, holy moly.

Wait until they run the numbers on carbon emissions of stop signs vs. sensible yielding laws.

That scheme sounds familiar. If you drew a diagram to represent the repayment of investments, does it resemble a geometric shape?

This is just like a stock crashing because the quarterly profits did not exceed the very high growth expectations more than a lot, they only exceeded a little.

Oof. That's a hell of a case of "bone-apple tea" if I've ever heard one. It undermines the credibility of the whole comment.

Some years ago in the Netherlands, I was cycling home through a pitch black cycling path covered by trees (so not even moonlight) with my very decent bike light illuminating the path ahead of me.

Before I could even process that there was another cyclist coming towards me, a dark figure zips past so closely that I feel their jacket brush my left hand. It startled me so much that I needed to stop and catch my breath. I could only imagine what would have happened if I had hit him head on with us both going 25 km/h.

I'm curious to hear how that incident was my fault.

People are insufficiently conscious of their visibility. Last night, in the dark and rain, a jogger came running full speed to cross a crosswalk from a dark wooded area between buildings who was completely wearing black. I would have hit her if it weren't for the two inches of white socks that extended above her black sneakers which allowed me to slam the brakes just a moment before.

I know it can be hard to introspect about your own visibility. My partner has pointed out to me how to be better visible when I go out on my bike. More people should think about it.

The Federal Aviation Administration in December published a Boeing request for an exemption from key safety standards on the 737 MAX 7.

Models of the MAX currently flying passengers in the U.S. have had to limit use of the jet’s engine anti-ice system after Boeing discovered a defect in the system with potentially catastrophic consequences.

The pilot procedure the FAA approved as an interim solution — urging pilots to make sure to turn off the system when icing conditions dissipate to avoid overheating that within five minutes could seriously damage the structure of the nacelle — is inadequate given the serious potential danger.
