On CLI I figure out the command I need once.

Put it in a script.

Cron it if I want it to be daemonized.

Never think about it ever again.

Anti-CLI folks just have a bad workflow.

They see the script as the end, when in reality it's a foundation. I rarely look at my foundation. I build on it.

With this workflow I have dozens, hundreds, or thousand of automatic actions that "just work". Idk, works for me.

That said, if you prefer to click yourself to RSI to accomplish the same task, who am I to judge. I just watch and nod until I'm asked for a suggestion.

True, in the situation with a local history maybe it's worthwhile to --force to nuke an empty remote. In that case it is practical to do so. I just typically like to find non-force options.

There are multiple solutions to this without using --force.

Move the files, clone, unmove the files, commit, push being the most straightforward that I can summon at this time.. but I've solved this dozens of times and have never use --force.

Cable will reach anywhere. There is not such a place that cable "will not reach". Is there a profit incentive to serve you as a customer in a capitalist system? Maybe not. But cable will reach.

I understand the debate perversion nitpicking you are engaging in, and it's a silly way to intentionally misunderstand someone.

The firefighters are all older men due to their profession and the nature of time. I understand their claim, you understand mine. I am not rejoicing in causing harm to others, and you are. I will gladly maintain an opposing view to people who think in that manner.

First, don't stereotype. Many older men are anti-Trump.

Second, making help dependent on political views makes us no better than MAGA.

This is a reductionist statement that discards people based on a flawed and imposed perception of them.

Finally, and the least important point of all, many of the men you are talking about have social media histories which refute your claim. As I said, this doesn't matter because even MAGA chuds deserve healthcare.

This feels like 1 spite politics, or 2 bot propaganda to defend dehumanizing Republican actions.

Gross.

Both perspectives are valid.

I was multibooting operating systems on my home PC at 16, and Google and Stackoverflow didn't exist.

Will do, I've been working on un-hardcoding some dev stuff and getting it ready to be published for general use. I will post the update on this sub-lemmy when it's ready.

All hail Roko's Basilisk.

Bring about the upgrade to humanity!

As simple as what I'm about to suggest is, it is priceless.

This is an example when copy > paste. Copy the file content, perform the methods shared in this thread, then once you've verified that everything is running properly you can delete the original copy.

If it bunks and overwrites, no biggie, you planned for that.

I'd love to say that I'd never made the mistake of choosing CUT when I should have chosen COPY, but I guess sometimes we learn things the hard way. 💀

This is wonderful, I'm going to look at their implementations. That person certainly has the same goals as myself. This seems like a good chance to learn some C#. Whether I extend this person's project or continue with my own implementation, I will post my results here once they are ready to be made public. Any persons reading this is free to message me to ask about progress.

qbittorrent cli project (programming.dev)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by stembolts@programming.dev to c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I've been working on a small project to remote control (via ssh mostly) my qbittorrent client. It's going well and I've already taken care of the basic functions I set out to create.

pause all
resume all
set default parameters to all torrents
sort priority to mirror dl_limit
shutdown client

Obviously I'll add more.

Thought I'd stop by and ask if anyone knows of a similar project. I'd be open to sharing the code but for now just the question.

So I was thinking of silly things I've done that pseudo-broke my system, or made me think I had a broken system. Like the time I put the cmd :

exit

in my ~/.bash_aliases file and I had to open a text editor to fix it because that broke all the terminals on my machine.

I'm curious what other silly things users have done to confuse themselves.

I found this Python script a few years ago, it is simple enough that a non-programmer could understand 90% of it. I just remembered it had been running as a scheduled task all this time when I thought I had lost some saves.

Thought I'd post it here in case anyone can use it. Minor things are hard coded but they are few and easy to edit.

Edit : I appreciate all the PoVs and I will reply to everyone. This is important to me. Just going to go rest a bit and I'll be back.

Edit : Leaving the self-insulting language in, but yeah.. Point taken, I should stop being so mean to myself. And to add another FYI, I've been on this codebase for about 3 months, which I probably should have mentioned.

I have no idea what is wrong with me. I get tasks, I work on them, they NEVER seem to close. Meanwhile everyone around me is left and right solving their issues. I reach out for a second opinion because I must just be stupid, and every time I reach out the person is never able to assist in any meaningful way.

It's like my tasks always have blockers that everyone around me seems perplexed by, I get a lot of, "Wow, that's crazy," or, "Yeah your job does seem to have a lot of unusual blockers."

I'm at the point where I'm in a daily meeting where I explain what I'm working on to a senior dev because obviously they noticed I'm a person on the team with sometimes zero points in a whole month. It's so discouraging to have to go to a daily meeting because apparently I'm stupid? The thing is, when I explain what I'm blocked by, every person has said, "Oh weird, this seems like a really confusing task." Or, "Damn I've never seen anything like that."

So obviously I look at other peoples' tasks.. what are they working on? And their tasks are SO simple and straightforward, yet I've NEVER had a task like that, all my tasks were opened years ago, remained open for months or years, then were assigned to me. And they're all fucky. Wth.

Tbh I'm running out of things to write because I don't want to justify it, because I feel like I should be doing better. What the hell is wrong with me?

I have wanted to change jobs for close to two years now.. but you've all interacted with recruiters.. they never help, and job search is impossible as a person with anxiety and possibly autism?

I love coding, I hate my coding environment.. Anyone else ever have this type of issue in programming?
