Is there a non paywalled link?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

This. I went to check the video and there's no way any user would expect installing steam to uninstall system packages. And yes, even though there's errors on the screen, the average user just clicks ok so that's the most average user experience. I do think it is strange he went to terminal to try to install when the UI failed, but as an old power user I might've tried the same. All in all, very unlucky for him to run into that problem, but also any normal user who immediately couldn't install steam would just be so put off by Linux not working immediately they'd probably go back to Windows. I was also genuinely surprised the video is only 3 years old

Lmao the gilded age is quite insane. I suppose it's just right given how it came to be named.

He probably wishes it was still the 50s and is regressing the country as much as possible to return to the"good old days"

People do give their time to companies for free- it's called working free overtime and tons of people do it (exempt employee pain), which is why employers are not happy with the change. What my comment says is just the short version of what you're saying- you're doing what the job requires and no more

It's corporate media term for doing what your job requires, but not giving your time to companies for free

I wish I could ban old people from it as well because when their mental processing ability declines, so does their ability to detect bullshit news from bots

Wow, shift goalposts much? You said "$10 in qbert days" which was the 80s and now it's not $10 it's $30. You can just admit you got it wrong and it was never $10 (though I do think prices right now are actually well aligned at $60 because of the far lower costs in distribution and marketing). Also I'm NOT the OP who played thousands of hours on qbert. Great job quoting someone else.

$50-60 based on what? Adjusted for inflation in 1982, it's more like $33 and distribution costs are way lower than back then. Truth is you just need to find a compelling gameplay loop but companies don't like taking risks- not every game needs to be a massive endeavor like skyrim. Look at games like slay the spire and see how a cheap game can be compelling without having to be a AAA behemoth. And at that note, is there even anything wrong if a game only takes your attention for a hundred hours? I don't see the need to extend the player's attention with poor side quest grinding. These things add unnecessary cost

I like to think it's because our education has gone really downhill, but I realize some of these people are so old it's questionable how much they really know and understand. I'm genuinely baffled we don't have a simple doctor's check to see if people in retirement are still cognizant enough to vote responsibly- it's the same issue with driving.

They're incredibly naive people who think they have some defensible moral high ground because they didn't vote, but the truth is they've accomplished nothing and surrendered their vote to fascists. If they really cared they'd be out there calling their congressman and lobbying for a change in policy. Yes, this is hard, but no one said change would be easy. The only reason Biden won the previous election is because people went out and voted. The reason Trump won is because they didn't vote. And I bet these people will not take responsibility for his transgressions even though they are partly responsible. I cannot help but feel we deserve this pain because our population would rather take the hypothetical moral high ground over voting for the better candidate.

This. Obama can wear what color he wants at the White House and there should not be an issue, but he would be expected to follow dress code at a FUNERAL because it's common decency.

The status site for lemmy sdf is showing some incredibly high latencies and saying the endpoint is unhealthy. I hope it's fixed quick

When someone posts a link in their comment, there are no options to copy, share, or sometimes even just view the link (I've seen this on some images that it just opens right away on a comment without even asking me, which seems a little too zealous for my taste). This is immensely useful when I don't necessarily want to open a link in the client (I.e. copy and paste to share it or maybe I want to open it in a different app). When a user long-hold presses on a link, you should get options on how to handle it. Some possible interactions are copy, share, and open in external app

Often when I want to find a community, I'm just using the search function. It's great that communities show up, but why can't I interact with it? There are no options and it's just a list, but a list is pointless if you can't do anything with it. Maybe tap could take you to the community and there could be a dropdown to subscribe? This is a rather frustrating user experience as I was used to just typing a community in the rif sidebar and getting to the community I wanted.
