freesewing.org has a boxer briefs design if you're interested in making your own.

I was just reading your post on solarpunk games - thanks!

I just completed my first substantial sewing project, using a pattern from this site! My hems aren't the most even and the neckline was really tricky but I'm pretty happy with it. This is the Sven sweatshirt design, and I used a somewhat heavy knit cotton/polyester fabric. It fits great (as you'd hope!) and will probably become my new winter pajama shirt.

The site is great to use - there are good pictures for how to take each of the measurements you need, and I liked the ability to manually optimize the part layout to minimize the amount of paper it used. I saw a tip on YouTube to piece the pattern together by taping it to a large window or glass door so you can see the overlap between the sheets, and that worked great for me.

My next goal is to do a Simon shirt in flannel - decent step up in complexity so I might do a few other simpler projects first.

FB marketplace may be where I end up - I've seen big fluid totes on there when I've looked in the past.

I'm curious where you got your rain water containers - I'd like to get something around that size this year.

I use these at night if my feet get too cold, but this was a great reminder I can use them at other times too! Turned down my heat but am very cozy with a blanket and a hot water bottle.

Also, making covers for them was a great beginner crochet project.

Stepping on @LallyLuckFarm's toes because I like these posts

It's been a frigid and gusty week here in New England, I needed two pairs of gloves for my bike ride to work yesterday! Just a couple of kale plants hanging on in my garden outside, but inside my potted camellia sinensis recently flowered for the first time! I'm currently battling a spider mite infestation and it did not enjoy lack of watering while I was away for Thanksgiving, but hopefully it'll bounce back in the spring.

What's growing on for you all? I hope all you southern hemisphere folks are enjoying the peak of the season!

Only just seeing this now - thanks for the response! Your blog is one of my favorites.

The permacomputing site looks awesome, I know what I'm reading tonight

I've been following you for a while on the mainstream socials, super cool to see you here! I love everything you've got going on! Good luck with the irrigation system, I'd love to do something similar in the future, and Home Assistant + ESPHome is certainly what I would use to control it.

I use an old phone that doesn't hold a charge as an always-on Home Assistant kiosk. Even if you don't run Home Assistant, there might be some other sort of dashboard-like thing that could be useful to have always visible.

If youve got the space, it can be as simple as just piling them up and leaving them for a few years. My mom does this, they take about three years to break down into usable compost. They'll go faster if chopped up by running the lawn mower over them before raking, or using a reverse leaf blower that shreds them.

There's also definitely no need to buy a fancy compost bin - you'd do just fine with a garbage can with the bottom sawn off to let the worms in. My municipality also had bins for sale for like $25 that have worked well for me.

I've been watching that site for a while, it's been part of my inspiration to try making clothes!

I just bought my first sewing machine! I'm an absolute beginner, the most sewing I've done is hand-repairing holes in clothes. Do you all have any recommendations for good video tutorial series or channels to watch? Any general advice for a newbie?

My first goal is to make a set of curtains for my living room and bedroom, but I'm interested in sewing some clothes eventually.

Thanks for another addition to my RSS reader! Lots of good posts on this site

I'm always looking for things to add to my RSS reader! I loved the Hundred Rabbits site that was posted here recently and thought others might have some nice submissions.

I recently found Sunshine and Seedlings which is substack, alas, but has some great content.

I'm also a fan of Low-tech Magazine.
