Joan Westenberg mentioned this in her "Trump-proof tech stack" post; anyone have any experience with this? It says it's open source, self-hostable, and based in France.

Unfortunate Andy Yen comments aside, a big plus is that cozy actually has a Linux desktop client (!), unlike Proton.

Such a minor quibble that I'm almost embarrassed to mention it, but it would be nice to have these if possible.

I've migrated the search.json.mozl4 (I think?) file I had in my FF profile folder, which has quite a lot of custom search engines I've accumulated over the years, so that may have something to do with it, but I think the favicons might have been missing out of the box? Anyway, like I said, a minor quibble.

They have several apps on F-Droid, which is usually a good sign . . .

EDIT: But try to sign up and they want your name, address, and phone number. Forget it!

Think this is because I just updated fonts-noto-color-emoji?

Well, in any event, this is an outrage I shall not stand for! 😉

EDIT: Well, this is what happens when you aim for Vietnamization, I guess. 🤷

EDIT EDIT: Using the menu editor on Linux Mint Cinnamon, you can usually edit the comments for an app by clicking on its preferences, and ironically I was doing that to mark the apps that are US-based with the flag as a reminder to find alternatives to them!

Because it's kind of hard! Even if I follow their instructions. Maybe I'm just dumb . . . 🙁

Which is why I left the Democratic party and became an independent (we have open primaries here so it's ok).

Hey Dems, don't try to resist or anything!

I've got Keepass for password manager and Mullvad for VPN, and both have worked out really well for me so far. What I haven't been able to find is a good alternative to Proton Drive. For aliases I use Firefox Relay.

You know what would be really great? If Thunderbird actually had its own email service (@thunderbird.net) and not just a client. When they were switching K9 Mail over to Thunderbird mobile, it seemed like there might have been the slightest hint on their blog that they were at least considering it (or maybe I dreamed it). Might be a good source of income for Mozilla too...🤔

Supposedly rclone can work with Proton Drive, but for me at least, it seemed way too complicated to set up.

As a Linux person, I, too, am somewhat tired of being treated like a second-class user. Having no Linux client for Drive is a real pain.

Mullvad VPN has worked well for me.

Putin's (very) useful idiot is now in the process of completing his work destroying the US federal government. Hope state governments can pick up the slack, because they'll have to.

EDIT: And, surprise! Red states are more dependent on federal funding than blue states are.

Not so good if you live below the Mason-Dixon line where they've never figured out how to plow the snow properly.

That's the Spectre. "He's more powerful than God," I always used to say.
