You are presented with an opportunity to choose between two distinct options for a post-scarcity life. The parameters of each option are as follows:

Option 1: Earth

Live anywhere you want on Earth, with the condition that space is limited and must be shared equally with others. You can have whatever you want, as long as it can be produced by a replicator. If your friends and family live on Earth, you can visit them in person. However, you will be subject to the same limitations and constraints as everyone else on Earth, in regards to space and legal codes that bind you (that are decided democratically).

Option 2: Customised Continent

You will be allocated a portion of a habitable planet, up to the size of a continent (but it can be as small as you want) with the ability to customise the environment to your liking, including:

• Biome (e.g. temperate, tropical, desert, etc.)
• Approximate gravity (within reasonable limits)
• Sun color and type
• Geography (e.g. mountains, valleys, coastlines, etc.)
• Other environmental factors that make sense

You will have access to the same replicator technology as Option 1, allowing you to produce anything you need. You will be part of a planet with 1-7 other continents, each inhabited by other individuals or groups who have also chosen this option. You can interact with them if you wish, but it is not required. However, unless you invite others to join you, you will only be able to communicate with loved ones on Earth (or anyone else not on your planet) via video call.

i really don’t like erratic behavior, defensive behavior, or people who act off in any way (in a bad way) but someone said i was ableist for this.

like someone got upset bc i said a character was handsome and they said “why do u like the character bc theyre handsome when u dont know the character” and i never said i knew them. or that i liked them. i just found them handsome from the photo.

I'm not sure if this is the right community to post in (maybe y'all can comment more appropriate ones if that's the case) but basically, I'm not sure what I believe in spiritually. While I believe in an afterlife and that my loved ones who are no longer here are there I'm uncertain If I believe in god, reincarnation, chakras, etc. I'm uncertain which religion to try to validate this belief that my loved ones are in a better place, but I know that I want life/spiritual guidance, community, and inclusion (both as a Queer person and a general outsider.) I just need some help figuring this part of myself out, is there anyone I can talk to about this? What should I do?

i’m constantly told to give up on my goals. they’re not even unrealistic, i don’t want to be a big, giant unicorn who saves the world or something.

My dad literally hits me and punishes me by starving me. However, my friend says he’s “just trying to shape me into the perfect young man” and that he “truly loves me”. This almost makes me think she’s either my dad in secret or dating my dad.

In all seriousness, what do I do? Stop talking to her? Talk to her? Be her friend despite it?

It is currently summer in India.

Are there any behavioural or infra modifications that would help handle the increased heat?
I have read about how white roofs would reduce heat absorption and energy needed for cooling
Are there other things like that? Especially ones that regular people can try? The other type(policy decision type) are ok too tho. Would be good to know them.

Also, are there any communities that would have discussions on such topics? Like a TIL or DIY community where people talked about general issues and solutions.

In the last 4 weeks I've worked with several people over 60 and I don't like what I saw: slow giving report or describing a problem, fixation on trivialities about a client's appearance or something funny he did instead of getting directly to the point and doing our jobs, incapable of coping with new forms of communication, feeling they are your supervisor, even though they're not, criticizing you for 'wasting' paper or erasers, telling you how they dislike other coworkers, even though I just met this person 2 hours ago, acting as if only their way of doing things is the right one, then they pretend to be your friend and ask questions about your personal life which I deflect as good as I can.

I don't like working with people like this, it's very draining and I don't want to become this kind of person.

How do I make sure not to become this kind of person?

someone I’ve known for a while has been quite hostile and closed off. they will get into relationships (friendships), and act like these people are the greatest in the world to avoid abandonment.

to not get hurt, they will later decide they actually don’t like these people and “sabotage” the relationship.

I believe that may or may not have happened to me. he is also quite bullied, so I feel bad for him. some people say there’s nothing I can do to help. he doesn’t use any electronics or socials, so I told his mom I wanted to be there for him.

She said she told him what I said.

My sister Lena’s friend regularly screamed at her, made fun of people, was ableist, etc.

She is on-and-off nice and mean. Right now, she’s nice. Before, she hated Lena. Now, she likes Lena. In a few months, she’ll hate Lena again.

Lena’s friend believes nothing is ever her fault and refuses to get help. She is very secretive and guarded, and acts very paranoid. Along with her defensive behavior, this makes me think she’s sadly being abused if she isn’t just a jerk.

She has quite the ego, but I’m not sure if it can be justified. Lena wants to be her friend and help her even with her behavior.

my (18f) sister (13f) has severe ocd and depression [is seeing a professional, will take meds]. she is constantly venting to me, walking in when i’m trying to do something private, etc. when i dont respond to her text right away, she tells me i hate her and she “knows i don’t care abt her”.

she constantly wants connections with others, but when they don’t give her exactly what she wants 24/7, she says she hates them and never wants to speak to them again.

i love her but idk how to help.

I can't tell enough how frustrating it is to have to select the post language every time, I would like to set it to English by default instead of explicitly having to select it every time, is it possible? I am using the web interface of https://lemmy.ml/

Have you ever ran away from home, or been kicked out, or just been homeless in general?

Obviously, fan fiction cannot be copyrighted or sold because it's a derivative work of licensed content. I know all of the legal bits regarding the direct profit from the work itself.

But are there any other methods for generating even a little money? Is begging for Patreon or some other tip service the only option?

I keep noticing that if I want a smart device, they often require you to have a hub for them.

But is there any ways in which we don't need to get the hub if we can set up something on a esp32?

Or maybe I guess I need to know the actual purpose of what the hubs are for, for instance we have a house lock with a hub, I am about to receive some automated blinds with a hub, my bedroom lights do not have a hub (one light is a wled light and the other is a store ought ceiling light), my humidifier does not have a hub.

I'm gonna ask my Abuelo for a USB so I can run Etcher and Yunohost for my instance. I want to choose the name craigsworld.net (like how lemmy.world's creator chose lemmy.world). How does the site naming through Yunohost work? How much does it cost?

In the past two days alone, I've gotten over 20 spam calls with none of them leaving a message. Just 3/4 seconds of silence on my voice mail. One call the other day left a 22 second blank message.
