And we need to change it to I'm 12 times more likely to be successful in my chosen career, 12 times more likely to go from the bench to the boardroom. And that's really why I'm so passionate about this game.”

A Winnipeg minor hockey player was benched for his team's season finale Saturday after his parents filed a defamation lawsuit naming a South Winnipeg Hockey Association (SWHA) board member as a defendant.

The association made the decision to indefinitely suspend the boy and his parents, Elena Russo Rusak and Corey Rusak, from all league-related activities on Thursday, after they submitted a statement of claim at Manitoba Court of King's Bench Tuesday against Hiten Shah, vice-president with the hockey association.

"It's heartbreaking on so many levels," Russo Rusak said.

Hi I just made a community for the Ligue d'Hockey Junior Maritimes Québec, also known as the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) that has teams from Québec, New-Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and next year a team in Newfoundland and Labrador

If you're interested, come and join! We speak both in French and English.

Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad was suspended 20 games without pay Monday for violating the NHL and NHL Players' Association’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, taking him off the ice for the defending Stanley Cup champions' stretch run and start of the playoffs.

Ekblad in a statement through the NHLPA said the news that he had failed a random drug test shocked him, and he apologized for the error.

“Ultimately, I made a mistake by taking something to help me recover from recent injuries without first checking with proper medical and team personnel,” Ekblad said. “I have let my teammates, the Panthers organization and our great fans down. For that, I am truly sorry. I have accepted responsibility for my mistake and will be fully prepared to return to my team when my suspension is over. I have learned a hard lesson and cannot wait to be back with my teammates.”

Are you all watching some of the games today/tonight? We've got Edmonton at Carolina followed by Vancouver at Seattle. Will the Oilers break their five-game losing streak? Are the Canucks going to make the playoffs? Why do we so rarely get the Jets on CBC when they are playing so damn well? Let's post about the games today.

The Apple Watch is now the smartwatch of choice for National Hockey League officials. Apple and the NHL just announced a collaboration where on-ice officials will wear Apple Watches that are running special software to receive important in-game information.

What would it take to get Russia, USA, Canada, and the EU in a 4 “Nations” Cup?

It sounds like the only injury scratch for tomorrow is McAvoy who apparently has a crazy infection in his shoulder. The American forwards should all be starting.

Has anyone heard if Canada is expecting an injury scratch that wasn't previously noted? I feel like they are suiting everyone up who they came into the tourney with.

Hope McAvoy recovers properly. Infections are no joke and it sounds like that joint took a lot of damage.

I'm making a thread to discuss both games today: -13:00 EST / 10:00 PST ― CAN vs. FIN -20:00 EST / 17:00 PST ― USA vs. SWE

Team Canada news: Cale Makar is playing, Binnington gets the start.

If the first game ends in regulation, the winner will advance to the final against USA. In case it goes to overtime, the door will be open for Sweden to advance with a regulation win.

UPDATE: Matthew Tkachuk (lower body) will not play tonight, Chris Kreider will dress instead. Charlie McAvoy will also not play (I think? The article just says he will be replaced by Jake Sanderson, nothing else). Oettinger will start for USA; SWE goalie still tba.

UPDATE 2: As per Elliote Friedman just now, Mattias Ekholm and Viktor Arvidsson are out for team Sweden (rip oilers), Leo Carlsson and Rasmus Andersson are in. Linus Ullmark is expected to start.

UPDATE 3:

Results of early gameCAN 5 - 3 SWE

★ Nathan Mackinnon (2G) ★★ Connor McDavid (1G, 1A) ★★★ Mikael Granlund (2G)

Finland roared back from a 4-0 deficit with seven minutes remaining in the game, causing a spike in heart rate across Canada when they made it a 4-3 game in the final minute. Sidney Crosby released the tension with an empty-net goal a few seconds later, punching Canada's ticket to the final on Thursday. The USA vs. SWE game later today is officially for pride only.

UPDATE 4: It turns out Elliotte Friedman was wrong, because I'm sitting here watching Ekholm and Arvidsson clearly playing. Rakell and Zibanejad are the actual scratches. Brady Tkachuk has also gone down with an injury. That's rough for team USA.

FINAL UPDATE:

Late game resultsUSA 1 - 2 SWE

★ Jesper Bratt (1G) ★★ Samuel Ersson (.969 SV%) ★★★ Zach Werenski (1A)

Team USA battled hard despite a bite from the injury bug (missing Matthews, McAvoy, both Tkachuks), but ultimately fell short of the win. Sweden was able to hold on to a narrow lead thanks in large part to a stellar goaltending performance from Samuel Ersson.

Thanks for hanging out everyone, it's been fun. Someone else will have to post the game thread on Thursday, as I'm going to be busy until at least the 2nd period. I'm looking forward to joining the discussion later on when I get the chance.

Until next time, take 'er easy, buds!

(This is mostly a community traction post because Lemmy needs more of it.)

US dev seems to be paying off on the top level. We have already seen the more recent juniors results the last handful of years but now it is starting to show beyond that.

I know the majority of this US roster comes from that program and I feel like last night that was visually apparent. It's starting to feel like a proper Canadian / American hockey rivalry has taken shape which should mean the next decade or so of international events should be top notch from that perspective.

On a semi related note; RIP to the Kids' 26 game win streak record wearing the Canadian sweater. Absolutely a legendary stat. His first assist against Sweden was crazy greasy. (Edit)

Is there a game thread for the USA - CAN game tonight? On the other site I often enjoyed watching the game and reading the comments. I don't see anything like that here? Is it a thing?
