Welcome to Lemmy, I'm one of the devs and admins for this instance.

Being pro-piracy, and allowing torrent magnet links 🏴‍☠️ , is one of the original reasons I started working on lemmy ( even a lot of the better reddit alts refuse to allow magnet links, or be pirate-friendly).

One of the best ways to keep the stream alive, is by decentralizing the ways we find and access content. Torrents do this directly for data, but I hope that lemmy, as a federated reddit alternative, can eventually serve as a platform to aggregate, post, and comment on pirated data in a decentralized way.

More info about Lemmy including docs, how federation works, and a good onboarding site.

Welcome aboard!

Ok, so I wanna expand my local music library, but Lidarr isn't doing it for me. My problem with it is mainly that it downloads all kinds of weird releases of an album when I just want the bog standard first release of an album. Also, for single songs it's quite the kerfuffle.

A possibility is downloading songs from YouTube through Stacher but then I need to update all the metadata myself, which I haven't found a user-friendly program for so far.

So my question is: Is there a program like Lidarr, but for single songs? Or some other solution to the issue I'm having?

I'm a pretty heavy torrent user, running a media server complete with sonarr/radarr for automatic downloads. I download a lot, and have multiple TBs of upload on various private trackers. I've been torrenting forever, but I've always wondered about usenet. Over and over on this, and other, forums I see people saying that usenet is way better - but why?

I understand what it is overall, but what makes it better than traditional torrenting? In my mind, it's always just seemed like a different means to the same end. I pay for a VPN and torrent for "free", or I pay for usenet access and download directly from there. As someone who's "snobby" around the quality of the stuff I torrent, does usenet provide an advantage there?

Usenet fans, I'd love to hear what makes you love it! I'm always open to trying new things, and if It really is better I'd love to know why! (Plus, maybe what providers/tools etc you recommend).

  • Italy’s pirate IPTV blocking system: The development and deployment is underway of a new system called Piracy Shield, which aims to block illegal IPTV streams in Italy within 30 minutes of a request by rightsholders.
  • Piracy Shield’s features and challenges: Piracy Shield works as an automatic platform that manages tickets submitted by rightsholders, and it sends blocking instructions to various online service providers. The source also discusses some of the concerns and limitations of the system, such as the lack of a whitelist, the difficulty of unblocking, and the secrecy of the source code.
  • Piracy Shield’s developer and status: Piracy Shield was developed by SP Tech, a brand protection and anti-piracy startup with strong connections in Italy. The source also states that Piracy Shield is not yet ready for operation, and that more technical meetings and research are needed to ensure its effectiveness and safety.

The Pirate Bay celebrates its 20th anniversary today. Founded in 2003 by a collective of hackers and activists, the small Swedish BitTorrent tracker grew to become a global icon for online piracy. The rebellious torrent site has a turbulent history and clashed with law enforcement authorities on multiple occasions. Despite these setbacks, it remains online today.

Is it the original creators, someone who's been endorsed or just an imposter?

It looks like I have nothing more to add to the conversation than the fact that almost every vpn which has a free plan doesn't allow torrenting. That's it folks. Ignore the post. Gonna not delete it because, well for the archieve ig

Here’s what I learnt, almost every vpn which has a free version doesn’t allow torrenting. Not even protonvpn, however if apparently atlasvpn allows it, but atlasvpn didn’t work for me, so I am gonna go take a nap.

I was wondering how you torrent using qbittorrent and manage to stay anonymous. I realize I can use a VPN, but VPN networks can fail. Apparently, there is a kill switch which can be applied so that qbittorent would kill all processes when the VPN is disconnected, I was wondering how one could do this. I live in a country where torrenting might be cracked down, so I just want to be secure and not take any chances.

Also, I realize I should not torrent over the tor network but what about VPN are they built to handle such a load?

PS: I won't download more than 300mbs per day.

https://allaboutberlin.com/guides/pirating-streaming-movies-in-germany

I didn't know how Germans pirated and how they got caught, so I tried to do some research and found the article above, which is quite nice.

To summarize, your IP is visible to your ISP (internet service provider) and a law company can basically send a legal letter asking your ISP to identify you and you will be identified and your address and details will be given to the Lawyers. Now, you can either pay up or hire a lawyer and pay a lesser amount.

Now, the solution the article provided was, just use a VPN bro. But yes, VPNs can fail and not all VPNs allow you to torrent. So, how do these Germans pirate and not get caught?

PS: I obviously don't condone pirate, asking for a friend who is an author.

I like audiobooks on audible and my free trial has expired, I forgot to save some files through libation, so now, where can I pirate the audiobooks on audible?

  1. Audiobook bay doesn't have the books I need
  2. PirateBay has the book but not the same voice (I am a sucker for this man's voice, I even said as much in the review)

I already know, but I feel like this post belonged here. Trust the skulls, I have usually found original seeders seeding the torrent alone for years at time (1 seeder) and they get the job done.

Green Skull, Pink Skull, Number of seeders column (what else?) are the things you should care for while downloading torrents.

I for the first time got to know about web seeds, these seed at maximum download speed your device can handle (like usenet) and if the torrent has no seeders at all these can be useful. I have seen their use in https://archive.org/ when I was downloading a Librivox audiobook. What are the disadvantages of web seeds? Would the government be able to shut these down with relative ease as unlike normal seeders, they are centralized. Also, is there a way to use these? I mean, is there a service which will seed through web seeds what I don't want to be seen seeding?

PS: Librivox is a free audio book site for books in public domain and you can legally get them after visiting their website. I love Librivox!

There's a show on Plex streaming (the ad supported free streaming stuff) anyone know how I can go about ripping it for guaranteed future access?

There's some content that I would like to own that is currently being hosted on Plex (by Plex, on their ad supported service) anyone know how to rip it?

Is there a relatively simple way to block network access to a program? Avoiding the command line ideally.

Heroic Launcher has a "run game offline" toggle for games that are installed/added through it, but I am trying to cut out the middle man and install non-steam games directly through Steam.

Steam launch commands? Any built in firewall?

Thanks in advance!

Ahoy mateys,

I've recently been trying to set up a win10 machine for seeding, but have been having weird network issues shortly after I lock the screen and stop interacting with it. My internet connection goes down entirely for this PC, but not the whole network. Restarting fixes the issue.

I have already ensured power saving is off for my network card - does anyone have any other suggestions that I could try?

Thank you!

As the title says, how do you pirate your movies while staying private?

I currently use one of the multiple 123movies websites to watch all my movies. But I'd like to not have my IP on their servers, so I use the tor network to connect to them. Now, as you can imagine, this is very slow and far from ideal. Most free VPNs have blocked the websites, and I do not want to pay for one. I thought about torrents, but found no way to do that privately either. Then I thought about Startpages "Anonymous view" feature, but that breaks the website I use.

So, how do you do it? I need some inspiration. Thanks in advance.

I'm fairly new to piracy overall, but I feel like I understand the basics of how to avoid my ISP and such. A family member who's in college texted me the other day asking how she could pirate textbooks and I realized I'd never thought about it. Any tips for pirating textbooks? Safe sites?

Hi everyone,

With all of the rising subscription prices, I am hoping to get some advice on the best Android device that will allow me to use the greatest number of streaming app (e.g, NewPipe, Stremio, Spotify apk, etc)

My nice-to-haves would be a device with a large screen (6.7 inches+), ease of installing apps, and durability. I used to have Samsung phones before which would be super laggy within 3 years of purchase, which I do not get with my current iPhone.

I am considering OnePlus and Pixels but am open to any suggestions!

I thought lemmy was anti-censorship we may need a new alternative at this rate.

I wrote a little essay a few ago about pirating games on SteamDeck, I am not sur it is allowed here. I didn't saw any rules against. If it is feel free to pm me I will remove my post. Hope this help other with low budget.

No need get window. You need somes tools though.

From the stock app market (called discover) :

  • Transmission
  • Lutris
  • ProtonUp-QT to install ProtonGE

From GitHub:

  • Decky (and the addon SteamGridDB)

On desktop mode.

I download my games as torrent from dodirepack or fitgirl with the software transmission(from stock appshop).

Once I have a game I use Lutris(from stock appshop) to execute the installer. Install games on :Z Wich is the steals file system.

Then I add the game to steam on desktop mode.

I set the compatibility in the game options mode on proton or protonGE.

And I rename the game to their steamid to be able to search for contrôler config. (Find steam game I'd on the site SteamDB)

In game mode

I then setup images for the games with the addon SteamGridDB installed from Decky (and addon loader for steamdeck)

If I have trouble running game I use protonGE which I installed with ProtonUp-QT (from stock appshop)
