This community is unofficial. Let me know if a developer of RetroAchievements wishes to have a Lemmy community.

RetroAchievements is a service that adds achievements to old games! From Gameboy to PlayStation 2 to the TurboGrafx-CD, regular and challenge achievement sets are available across myriad games and game hacks.

The achievement system is baked into specific emulators, and requires nothing more than the proper ROM or ISO and your user credentials to start earning.

I did a web app to create overlays for your RA streams

For the streamers that use retroachievements I did this web app so you don't have to install anything on your computer. Just login with your username and the web API key and choose from the catalog (a bit short for the moment)

The link is https://overlays.makmonty.com/ and the code is hosted here https://github.com/makmonty/cheevos-overlays

As the disclaimer says, all communications are between the web and the RA API, and there are no cookies. Only the local storage of your browser is used to store preferences, so your data is safe.

Let me know if you find it useful, or if you'd like more features, or if you find bugs!

Afterplay.io is a web-based retro gaming emulator with support for SNES, GB, GBC and GBA (Premium includes support for even more consoles including N64, PS1, and DS).

The latest update just added retroacheivements support. As far as I know, it’s the only emulator that supports them on iOS that doesn’t require sideloading.

I beat FF1 for the first time back in February 2022 through the Pixel Remaster. Even went and got all the Steam achievements! Now, someone I know was playing through the Pixel Remaster so I decided to play through the OG NES version myself.

The achievements here were a good selection that ended up taking two playthroughs. The missables could have been gotten in my first playthrough had I planned a bit more, but I don't regret taking two playthroughs to get the achievements.

First playthrough was Fighter Monk BlackMage WhiteMage. I went through and got all the chests but never got the class upgrade.

Second playthrough was chestless, Fighter Monk Monk RedMage. I accepted the class upgrade, and completed the challenge achievements I didn't get on my first run - things like beat KARY with a flame sword or fire spell.

Now I join 65 others who've mastered this game :)

While there are no achievement sets yet, this gives RA devs the tools to roll them out once they're available and ready for rollout.

Useful information for getting started can be found here.

As some of you may have already heard, we've been working with the HorizonXI team to bring RetroAchievements support to their Final Fantasy XI private server. Their ideology of maintaining that classic feel of the older FFXI era with some new experiences aligns well with the RA goal of bringing achievements to classic gaming experiences. FFXI holds a significant place in gaming history, especially as a landmark title for the PS2, and we're hoping to introduce even more players to it with this partnership!

Today is the day that we release our initial sets to test out the new integration with their platform! This marks our first ever "Standalone" release on the RA platform--and through extension, the first "core+subset" type experience our site has to offer. Note: this is different than how emulators will implement this sort of feature, which still needs a lot of work before it comes to realization. There are only a few sets to start--but, if things go well, we plan to add many more sets that players can earn achievements in while playing the game ranging from expansions, endgame content, crafting, fishing, job-related goals, and more!

Final Fantasy XI (Standalone) (Check this forum for some useful info!)
Final Fantasy XI: Rise of the Zilart (Standalone)
Final Fantasy XI [Subset - Hero of Nations] (Standalone)

Massive thanks to Flam, Shozokui, Rogueone, WCopeland and everybody else involved for helping make this happen!

On the Horizon (Events)
In addition, we're also holding a new event to celebrate this occasion where players will able to get a special badge (courtesy of @Jenettebaghead) for trying the game out and completing early game milestones! Read more about that here: https://retroachievements.org/viewtopic.php?t=25374

The launcher, as well as instructions on how to link to your RA account can be found at https://horizonxi.com.

Link your HorizonXI account to Discord at https://auth.horizonxi.com/ and then follow the instructions here to start earning achievements.

Join the RetroAchievements Discord to talk with fellow achievement hunters about the game in our #horizon-xi channel!

I have been informed by Snow that the RetroAchievements devs are going to begin the dev rollout for Dolphin on Feb 1

Rollout will be for developers only, with some people given permissions to do player testing. Rollout will be indefinite with no end date until we're satisfied with the player testing, and we expect somewhere around three months.

At that point RC will coordinate with Dolphin about properly announcing and releasing achievement functionality to all players.

  • View your completion progress for all games you are earning achievements for
  • View awards for mastering a game
  • View all of your recently earned achievements
  • See users that have earned specific achievements
  • View the Achievement of the Week and get a notification when a new one is posted!
  • View the top ten user leaderboard
  • Add games to the Backlog to keep track of what you want to play
  • Search for games by console to see what games currently have Achievements to earn
  • Create a list of games to track completion progress
  • Follow other RetroAchievements.org users and track their progress and recently earned achievements

I would absolutely LOVE to hear feedback from the community.

Once the final API endpoints get enabled, I will start work on the v2 update which will have much more information for users.

Ages ago, the Ancient Sages built the Temple of Time to protect the Sacred Realm. Ganondorf, the Gerudo King of Thieves, has Obtained the Triforce of Power and become the King of Evil. The power of the sages lies sleeping in six temples across Hyrule. The time has come for you to awaken as the Hero of Time!

This adaptation takes Link to familiar places and a few new ones. It is designed to be more difficult, more forgiving, and less linear than the vanilla game.

ROM: Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (USA).nes [no-intro] Patch location

Hey!

I just want a community like this here. If anyone from the RA team ever wants to take over, I'd love to hand it off to y'all.

For those unfamiliar, RetroAchievements is a service that adds achievements to a ton of Retro games and game hacks. In fact, there's as of right now over 7,800 games and hacks with achievement sets, counting nearly 360,000 total achievements. The website also has an achievement score system that works into a total score for players, as well as a bunch of community features.

The project's FOSS, with components licensed under MIT and GPL-3.

I personally think this project is great because it gives me some reason to go back and replay games I've loved, and encourages me to play more of games that I think I'll love. My personal favourite systems with RA support are N64, SNES, PS1, PS2, GBA, and Nintendo DS.

I hope people find this community to their liking. Please let me know of any changes you want in how I do things around here, but until then I'll be doing all I can to contribute and create a community!
