This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Today's game was Halo Reach. I had finally hoped to finish it up today with my friend, but i miscounted how many levels were left. Hopefully tomorrow should be the day and I will have finally played Master Chief Collection through in it's entirety on Legendary. Though, i plan to go back through Halo CE on Legendary because according to the service record in game i did not beat it (which i assume is due to mew having anti-cheat off due to an error with Proton).

Playing through Reach, i can definitely see why it's so beloved. While trying to avoid story spoilers (even though it's an old game), there was one section where you get to fly a Pelican (big helicopter like things) with a fiery hellscape of a city as the backdrop that progressively gets worse. It made for such a cool moment that was fun to playthrough:

I like that it actually let us fly the things too instead of just making it an on Rails shooter. It helped make it feel unique in my opinion, especially since in two earlier levels you were just a passenger.

Story wise (now possibly story spoilers), i'm really enjoying how much grittier it feels. Knowing how it ends really makes me wish i didn't know, because i think that ending would be far more enjoyable without knowing it.

And, i know i say this for almost every game i play, but it looks gorgeous too. The city landscape of the level especially is really well done in my opinion, and i felt like Reach executed it well in the one level as opposed to ODST's open world thing (don't get me wrong though, i really loved ODST). I like how it has you backtrack to the first level at near the end. It's such a fun thing to do to havbe you go back only to get to go deeper too. And the audio logs are really well hidden and fun to find. There not as fun as the Skulls in my opinion, but they're still a lot of fun.

That mission was one of the best in all of Halo. Where you really feel how dire and ruined everything is. Mixed with running around actual civilian places contrasted to the numerous forerunner built, bunkers, or nature locations or the other games and it really hits home.

(Outskirts and New Mom asa got close, but with the graphics of the time and mostly being outside it didn't quite hit the same)
