Manipulative news. It just mentions "Drug offences" so you imagine that they were just smoking weed or so, but then you find out that they were actually smugling like 2 tons of pure heroin or some shit like that!
Beyond that, this is the local law. If their laws say you get executed for drugs and you bring drugs it's kind of on you. Now whether or not they got a fair trial or not in China is another matter of course.
