With some prominent Democrats and liberal pundits arguing for the party to try to win Elon Musk back to its side, you have to ask: Is American politics simply a matter of who can best kiss the ass of narcissistic reactionary billionaires?

To bad. Money talks. Huge advantage. Take what we can get. It's immoral to make terrible strategic choices when the consequences of losing is letting Nazi 2.0 take power.

Just make the deal where he has to fund a small Navy to send aid to Palestine.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

let's work with the Hitler salute guy who explicitly donated a bunch of money to buy access and spent months using that access to cripple the government for decades to come.

So the solution to defeat Nazi 2.0 is to cater to Nazi 2.1?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

We have the technology to make it better, stronger, and faster!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Yea if they pay up

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Go to bed with a Nazi you wake up a Nazi.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (4 children)

You're a Nazi regardless if you believe that. But also no doesn't work like that. That's a pretty dramatic take. He's a drugged out idiot. His salute bullshit was trolling at the worst. Let him fund things. You don't need to invite him into your house for a beer. The actual Nazis are in government right now in key positions hiring strategically. We're so far up shits Creek. It's just like any of you fucking people are funding anything on the left.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

How about we just tax him instead of acting like quislings?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

You're not giving him anything. He's paying. How does that make you the quisling. If you're using WWII knowledge. That was is fillled with examples of strategy over some made up head up our ass moral superiority. Take advantage especially capital in a capitalist world. Especially a capitalist with massive signal boosting capabilities. Tired of fucking losing with you people.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is the most neolib response I've ever read.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The fucking world is burning and I partially blame the left for ineffective and incompetent strategies and ideals. In my life, the left has a decent hold on things. Every year things improved bit by bit. But then the Internet came and it became clearer and clearer things changed. Instead of adsorption adapting the left just lost and continued to lose and never once has been critical of why they have been losing. It's always how others are just dumb or rich.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So you want to double down on neoliberalism, which is mainly the reason why Dems keep losing? You're as much as a genius as Musk.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lol they're not losing because of neoliberalism. They're losing because the left is no longer effective as a group and Democrats are closer to Republicans but that's only because they're allowed to be by the people. Which goes back to the left as people are just ineffective at what they try to accomplish.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And by kowtowing to Musk, you're going to get much more of the same thing. Again, doubling down on Neoliberalism is what's going to make Dems lose. Like how the fuck are you not getting this? You sound like Schumer and Co.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Good job on ignoring everything else and hyperfixating on one word. You're not a serious person. You can kindly fuck off now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

That's a critical part of the argument

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You seem to be mistaking the Democrats for "the left" when they are in fact a party of right-wing moderates.

I'd advise looking up Douglas McCarthy for some historical perspective on why there is no "left wing" in American politics.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No I'm not. You people are like lemmings. One of you says a thing and then that's like your go to retort. Need like a David Attenborough for the digital age that can see these copy paste retorts in the wild and categorize them all.

I'm well aware they're not the left. But I'm a political climate where there's Republicans and Democrats you don't have many options.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If someone tries to you into a false dichotomy, the correct move is to call them out.

If you want to comply with a political party that you yourself said "sucks", that's your perogative. I'll be over here with everyone else whom the Democrats have failed to represent.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well maybe that is the reason both political parties have moved further and further to the right

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The reason they're both moving to the right is that they are both right-wing parties, beholden to the same capitalist interests.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That's what a lot of you keep telling yourselves to self soothe all the failures

There's always excuses. But the fact is the left lost the plot a long time ago.

Hey, here is another example. The left can't ever set it self up for success. Chase all the money and power away. Then wonder why there's been a steady decline.

https://lemmy.world/post/31156021

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Your logic doesn't explain why that trend has persisted since these two parties were founded. Much easier just to wave the whole issue away by blaming the people who aren't represented by the two-party system, right? They should change their politics to match the party and not the other way around, right?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

You're not giving him anything. He's paying. How does that make you the quisling.

Depends, is he going to put out a press release and leverage his "donation" to whitewash his reputation or is it going to be anonymous and with no strings attached?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That's on us and the Democrats. The Democrats probably will but who cares, they're fucking garbage anyways. Are you about to suck him off or anyone else? Probably not.

But does he want in and can fund lots of shit. Fuck yea he can. Operation paperclip his ass. Bring him in. Have him donate to Harvard, fund some Mercs to get aid into Palestine. Hell he is a troll, have him buy all the properties around Trump's properties and build them higher than his. Who fucking cares. Capital is good. Capital does things. We've already lost everything. Take the W when we can.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Nah, IMO the Democrats are shitty enough as it is without the world's richest zit getting involved.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yea they suck. And he is a zit. But also rich.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Being rich makes all of his motives and desires suspect, if he told me the sky was blue then I'd assume he pulled some kind of Lex Luthor shit and turned it purple and green until I could check for myself.

That's not the kind of person we want running the country. In fact, that is the kind of person who should be kept very far away from the political process except when it's investigating reports of malfeasance at his companies.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

WW2 reference? Or WWZ reference?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

The former. I read WWZ but never watched the movie or played the game.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

Imagine being so stupid you can't differentiate a nazi from a nazi. Good thing you're not in politics, champ.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The problem is that if he funds things he's going to trying to influence things to go to the right. He hates "woke", believes white genocide is a threat, believes in suppression of free speech, hates regulation, etc..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I don't think he believes any of those things. He's a capitalist. He doesn't care because those are rules. Rules do not apply to the rich like him. They're just pieces on a game board they move around. He wants attention. Take advantage. Convince him to aid Palestine and they'll all be eating cyber trucks in a week.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

He absolutely believes in those things, and has shown multiple times he's willing to light his money on fire to support his ideals. He's idealistic (adjacent to the neo-fascist Dark Enlightenment movement), and not just simply motivated by wealth.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

As a believer of white genocide there's no way we can convince him to aid Palestine. Supporting Ukraine again, maybe.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

I think guys like him can be convinced to action with some very petty motivations. But we just need methods to motivate

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hand waving a hand wave.. I did Nazi that coming.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't care end of the day. The way you all get wrapped up over shit that doesn't matter is crazy. The guy is trying to be 4chan irl. You people call everybody Nazis. He's just a troll. He doesn't have enough moral conviction to be a Nazi. He's just a drug addict

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

None of that is a good look for Democrats.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

The article is akout whether the Democratic Party should try to "win" Elon back.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Its bad strategy and the thing that Democrats really need to learn right now: Money doesn't win elections.

3x+ fundraising for Harris. Loss.

Musk drops millions on judicial race. Loss.

People win elections. You are just wrong about money.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Money doesn't win elections alone. But it's like 90% of what it takes to win. A politician spends most of their year canvassing for funds. That is why Washington is majority call centers for these politicians. Look it up. It has the most call centers per capita because they all cold call donors for funding.

The left needs content. Content creators need funding. People don't win elections. Money wins elections. If money didn't win elections, the deliverables Democrats would have a higher success rate. The left is circling the drain. It's not the 1900s anymore. A political group made up of poor angry young people isn't going to be able to punch as hard against the authoritarian forces that exist today. You can't just freak out and burn cities. You need subversion and better strategy. It all costs money. The left on all fronts has lost. There's no coming back especially with the awareness some of them have. They do the same thing every year and act like it'll work while also crying about how bad it's become. But it's never them it's always the mean rich people. Well maybe being rich has something to do with their success and victories over the past could decades.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

in the 2024 election the RNC raised 390 million, dems raised 548 million. Dems still lost. The old consultant wisdom that whoever raises the most money wins no matter what didnt work.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That's crazy I didn't know that. But I think of funding. I think of funding grifters like heritage foundation, TPUSA, people's careers like Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, Tim Pool whoever amplifies.

There's not much on the left. Unless it's a former Republican who is now anti Trump.
