That's an excellent question, otherwise we'll end up with the whole lone alpha wolf meme nonsense again.

For example, this study talks about 'musth' when male elephants experience increased testosterone - perhaps that's what it's refering to. With a very quick Google search I couldn't find any general ranking of testosterone to body weight in animals.

Male elephants experience a biological phenomenon called “musth”, which is characterized by increased testosterone production, temporal gland secretion and urine dribbling, heightened aggression and sexual behavior, and therefore can pose unique challenges for human safety and animal welfare.

That makes sense. I forget sometimes the yearly mating common in animals works in both how the females and males systems work.
