We should also remember that they turn around episodes in under a week. And when something REALLY juicy happens, they'll do it in under a day.
Hence the jokes about Colbert being taken off the air in the episode launched less than a week later
This season is going to be a bit more dated, mostly because of the custody battle. But they're obviously adding more recent things in before they air.
