Shouldn't the bassist be complaining about not having a 20 string bass?
Why more than four string when not more than four finger?

Once, our bassist did a rehersal with only the E and the A string just to prove a point, so I guess that's subjective
The bassist for the presidents of the USA plays two string, and the guitarist plays three
Every other sting is just a backup after all!
Personally I don't like moving my hand up and down the neck too much, I'd prefer to just have as many strings as possible so my left hand barely moves. Gonna need 24 strings now.
24 strings, all tuned a half step apart, 1 fret
