My cats are very gentle, so if I touch the beans he will just gesture and pretend to bite me. His polite way of setting boundaries, I suppose

My kitty lets me handle her paws a little, and if she's had enough she does the best thing: She reaches down with her nose and scoops up my hand as if to say "pet me up here. Cheek scritches instead of paw rubs plz."
