RULES (updated 01/22/25)
- Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
- Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
- Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
- Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
- No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
- Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Not sure why you're down, but don't feel bad about not posting.
Look, I'm gunna be straight with you, Lemmy can be frustrating when it comes to providing content to your community because, yea some people comment and of course you get votes, But little to no one CONTRIBUTES
People have no issue consuming content, but a lot seem to have zero desire and interest in contributing.
This can be exhausting. Especially if you have a lot of communities like myself.
It feels thankless, and like a waste of time sometimes. I now only post when I'm feeling in the mood for it. But I don't post insistently anymore because really that makes it work and no fun.
Having said all this. It makes me wonder how far lemmy will even develop if it stays like this.
Bots and posting web links with zero description, area not the answer. People, at least from what I gather, are not interested in recycled or manufactured content.
Too many are comfortable providing nothing but consuming everything, and then bitching that no one is participating in communities of their niche interest or also not even creating communities for their niche and then just complaining that it's not on Lemmy.
Like look, you have to make at least a little bit of an effort. You can't just take take take and then bitch bitch bitch but provide nothing to help the situation.
I like your community, I always upvote your posts and comment when I can. You deserve a break don't feel bad about it.
I'm just feeling a bit down because of a number of things going on in the world, and especially the various things that are happening to the environment and the wilderness that seem to worry me. I'm not feeling bad about not posting since I'm looking for ideas on what to post.
I'm not exactly frustrated when it comes to providing content to my community, even though I'm getting so many emails a day that have been slowing me down, not because little to no one contributes.
I don't moderate a lot of communities, I only have one community I moderate.
Yeah, this may make someone wonder what the future of Lemmy could end up being.
I'm not a bot, and I don't use bots to post web links with zero description because that is not the answer, and I try not to recycle or manufacture content.
I'm not bitching that no one is participating in communities of my niche interest, even though I have already created a community on here. And I do make some effect and I'm not bitching about it.
Its good people like you like my community, and I think that I may try a koala kasual or something topic in it soon, even though I'm currently in a bit of a break trying to figure out the two munch e-mails issue I have.
You're doing great ok ! Don't give up !
To clarify
I wasn't referring to you about people bitching. You created your community so that statement wasn't directed towards you.
It's directed towards people who don't do that
Hope that makes more sense
