That is a long time to be paying a guy whose style isn’t known to age well in a player’s 30s. I could see this getting bought out or cap dumped in a couple years.
By the time Washington is competitive again I don't think he'll have much left on the contract anyway. Someone over on [email protected] said it best when they said he was Washington's 'Tank Commander'.
They're going to suck for a bit.
I think that’s mostly true, but Caps fans would probably hope to be better before the contract is up in eight years. Take it from a Sabres fan, that long of a rebuild does a lot to your love of the game.
My worry is that Wilson will be awful in the last few years when/if the Caps are ready to be good again at that point. Sure he can be the tank commander, but at some point he’ll just weigh them down with a contract that will be very hard to move.
