Seems some of the mods on /r/usenet went on a power trip and deleted any post they didn't agree with. A new sub Reddit was created called /r/UsenetTalk and people are abandoning the old one. In my opinion it is better to just move to Lemmy.

The issue with Lemmy is that people don't want to look for an instance to join, they prefer all the work done for them like Bluesky default instant, so I doubt anyone would move here. What's funny is that the mods are approved by reddit and now new mods have taken over, there is a rumour that they are the same awful mods with alternate accounts. Reddit is truly awful, bots, propaganda, and a lot of power abuse.

Well, the best instances for usenet people is here, https://discuss.tchncs.de or https://lemmy.dbzer0.com Both are incredibly welcoming. I understand people love what they're familiar with, but the future is now. At least give them the choice.

People already mentioned Lemmy, no one joined, also the mod this Usenet lemmy group hasn't posted anything in a year.

@[email protected] can we move the community to your instance?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (2 children)

It already exists [email protected]

The tricky part is getting people to use it, for now most people seem to be fine using the general [email protected] community even for usenet.

If the !piracy community is not that busy, is that an issue? There will always be time to redirect people to !usenet once it gets too busy

Piracy is relatively busy. But not at the point that people need to be redirected.

Nice. Let's try and get some activity over there.

Ye no need to ask me. So long as you don't invite bigots in, we're good.

Um, the type of people who would do the effort to pick a Lemmy instance are exactly the type of people technical enough to know or use Usenet. Especially the ones that know enough to contribute useful information.
