A 25-year-old Sega mascot, Ecco the Dolphin, is making a potential comeback. Sega has filed trademarks for 'Ecco' and 'Ecco the Dolphin' in Japan, hinting that an upcoming game may be in development.

The original Ecco The Dolphin was released in 1992 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, and Sega CD. It was followed with other titles such as 'Ecco: The Tides of Time' (1994) and 'Ecco Jr.' (1995), before transitioning to the Dreamcast in 2000 with 'Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future'.

Imagine a VR Ecco experience. Propel yourself just below the waves in the chill ocean, jump out of the water occasionally for fun.

Did…you play Ecco much? That game is terrifying, and in VR it would be intense.

I was just sitting here thinking about a movie adaptation a la sonic...

It turned into Aliens with a dolphin mo-capped by Sigourney Weaver...

I play VR regularly, including some stuff with relatively free movement, but with all the dashes and jumps, my inner ear is going "Nope, no you don't".
