This could be especially good for new users who do not understand the command line or those who have used the command line on another os and need to understand the command usage on Linux.

For the last year I've been playing lots of classic DOOM. DOOM has one feature that I started to appreciate ever since I learned about it, which is the ability to roll up brightness very high. This is what doom looks like when I play it:

I miss this thing in lots of other games. Recently I've been trying to get into Deus Ex (2000) via wine but it was so dark I couldn't see shit. Maybe it's my monitor that's not very powerful or my environment that's pretty bright by itself, but I feel just the simple ability to gamma correct any game or the whole desktop would solve this problem for me.

Do you know any such util that works on wayland?

The launcher gets stuck at 88% patching dat files and then it fails. I have tried different solutions I've read such as: using steam launcher, using standalone launcher trought lutris, using repair data option; I have tried deleting dat/datx files, deleting "downloads" and "forward" directories, limiting download speed of the game, changing game proxy option; I have tried diferrent versions of proton, protonge, wine. Nothing works. Please help me.

Update: Lotro launcher works if I use a VPN. Thank you all for helping me.

So I was thinking of switching my desktop to linux. I have been running fedora on my laptop for 3 years and I really like it. My main question now is just what distro works best for gaming (considering my specs) and can I use VMs in any of the gaming oriented ones (mostly because I don't wanna keep dual booting).

Edit: I have gone with Bazzite for now and it seems to be working fine. Some games don't rrally work acceptably (I expected that) so I will keep dual booting for a while.

I haven't used bazzite before but was looking into handhelds for my spouse and was curious if anyone has installed bazzite on a GPD Win 4, I heard some kinks hadn't been worked out with SteamOS on that hardware so I was curious about people's experiences. Or rather is that hardware more than needed? Would she be better off with a unit that comes with SteamOS for cheaper as it runs everything you have thrown at it?

I found a external drive and made a dual boot. I just thought i should let you all know.

Thoughts?

So i have a gaming desktop that not the best or the newest. What takes up most of my drive space is games, updates, and software's. Im wondering if i should switch to linux and if linux will improve any performance for my main machine? If you believe i should switch what os should i go with or why or why not should i switch?

I mostly game and do mess with ollama/ai tools because i think that's cool. I want to do more things in the future but that might beyond my drive space?

What would you advise?

I have tried multiple different versions of proton, ge proton, I have tried the EA launcher, and a few black magic incantations. It either runs at 4fps or will not load at all. I have tried everything i can find on protondb that is not an ancient report.

I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon with an Intel i5. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd100509-overview-for-thinkpad-x1-carbon-type-20bs-20bt

Coming about three weeks after DXVK 2.6.2, the DXVK 2.7 release adds support for the VK_EXT_descriptor_buffer Vulkan extension by default on newer AMD and NVIDIA GPUs to significantly reduce CPU overhead in games like Final Fantasy XIV, God of War, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Watch Dogs 2, and others.

Lost Ark EAC apparently got enabled for Linux one or two weeks ago and alot of people are able to play according to protondb. But a few seconds after I enter character select I get a message saying that EAC is offline. I've tried proton-em, -ge and experimental but it's the same for all.

I've had the same problem with Armored Core 6 (also EAC), where the multiplayer was working out of the box for others except me.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm missing here? If not, does anyone know other places I could ask for support?

I've been experiencing freezes after ~1h of playing. Those are hard freezes when even switching workspace doesn't work. Restarting the game helps for another hour

I've tried what few options from protondb but haven't noticed much change

Am I the only one?

  • GPU: Radeon 5700 xt
  • CPU: AMD
  • 48 GB RAM
  • SSD

In the current situation, choosing the Windows 11 version for the Legion Go S is a what only a fool would do.

Let’s sum it up:

  • Worse performance across the board
  • Worse power consumption
  • More expensive

The Windows 11 version only makes sense if there are games with anti-cheat that you don’t want to miss on. There are some notable exceptions like GTA 5 Online and APEX Legends where SteamOS support was removed recently. And there’s Fortnite, outside of Steam, that remains unplayable on SteamOS. There’s probably a few more too, but those are the important ones that come to mind. If such titles don’t matter for your gaming patterns, the SteamOS of the Legion Go S version is the obvious choice.

After [seeing the benchmarks], you must be wondering if Lenovo actually bothers with the Windows version at all! Truth is, it’s worse than that. You can’t even find a mention of the SteamOS version of the Lenovo Legion Go S on Lenovo’s website. I am so NOT kidding. There is “View Models” button, but there are no other models apart from the Windows 11 Home version.

I checked a few country sites for Lenovo, and it’s inconsistent as hell for a Global company. France only has the Windows version, Japan doesn’t even list the Legion Go S model (still stuck at the previous Switch like model), and finally I could find the SteamOS version on Lenovo’s site in Indonesia!

So, guys, I don’t want to kill your enthusiasm, but this sounds very much like We are just pretending to release a SteamOS version but in fact we advertise the Windows model everywhere instead. Since I am familiar with large companies, I guess the story was like that. Someone in Business Development managed to secure a deal with Valve, the CEO must have said OK, does not cost much anyway. And then the BD guy went fishing in each territory, asking for the Marketing leaders who wanted to launch that SKU, and turns out most region heads were not interested in hearing about SteamOS. This is probably why you end up with said SKU only listed in some small regions and not the main ones. It’s probably a pilot, at most. I was not in the room, so I don’t really know, but it does sound and smell like this kind of situation.

Well, in the US, if you are actively looking for it, you can find it on Best Buy, at least…

In short, you have SteamOS delivering all the goods, but there’s no appetite on the manufacturer’s side to do anything about it. Sad. Note that Lenovo is the only manufacturer with an official support stated for SteamOS on the Legion Go S. Valve is offering support for additional handhelds (the original Legion Go, and the ROG Ally) but that’s considered experimental and not official at the moment (see their recovery image page).

Hi All,

I am looking at starting a project and was wondering if there was a way to make it so a controller type changed boot conditions. I want to move to linux for my home entertainment and would like to have a ps5 controller boot Lutris and a different controller boot into something like KDE plasma.

Is this a possibility or nonsense?
