"Biden remains the top contender among Democrats, however, and Trump’s lead over the other GOP contenders widened following his federal indictment earlier this month."

Given that one is the clear favorite among Democrats, and the other is the favorite among Republicans, it'd be perverse if we didn't get a rematch between them, unless that changes between now and the election.

This is how it is supposed to work in a two-party system. The favorites of each party get to compete. If there were somebody else who was the favorite of their party, they'd get to compete.

If it were a different system (e.g. a parliamentary system), then the rules would be different. Although tbh when I look across the pond to the UK, I can't say they consistently do a better job picking leaders than we do.

Trump’s lead over the other GOP contenders widened following his federal indictment earlier this month.

...it widened after this? Jesus.

Republicans see him as a martyr and the indictments as vindicating his persecution-by-the-deep-state complex

But will they all have a unified vote in the preliminaries?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

what if we had a president who was actually going to have to live with the consequences of what they chose to do?

Well there already almost a dozen republican candidates, we just need to collectively back one or two that aren’t Trump. Does anyone have any thoughts on William Hurd who just announced? I don’t know much about him.

Are there any promising Democrats that are running against Biden?

Is it just me or is this thread swarming with trolls?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We've really got to kick this idea thatDemocratss who don't like moderates are trolls.

They exist in large supply.

I'm not suggesting every democrat who dislikes moderates is a troll

Im referring to the number of people in this thread pushing the narrative that both parties were equally bad, or discouraging voting altogether for whatever reason. That is something trolls engage in.

I dont get why someone who is so dissatisfied with Biden for not being progressive enough would choose not to vote when the opponents who would benefit from this decision are fucking far-right christian authoritarians.

When when does what Americans want actually effect what America does? Not holding my breath.

so long as young people generally don't care to vote, people who have no stake in the future will be the only choices.

In the midterms there was a historic youth turnout, if the gop continue their "lets block student debt relief/ban abortion and birth control, attack trans people, bring back child labour etc" ... good chance they will turn up to vote again. At least i hope so.

Fuck, why don’t we just vote for houseplants at this point?

The impressive part is that we have two less popular candidates than Trump and Hillary. And that election had people wishing for a meteor to end the earth.
